A comprehensive national survey was commissioned by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, to determine how much American adults really know about the Holocaust – the results of which were released on April 12, 2018, the global Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day).

You’re not going to like the results.  In fact, you’re not even going to believe the results.

There has been a significant rise in the usage of words like “Nazi” and “fascist” to describe other Americans, and the calling of the President “Hitler” has also grown exponentially.  And is it any wonder, when you hear that most Americans know little to nothing about the actual Holocaust/

Simon Wiesenthal, a Ukrainian Jew who lost most of his family to the Nazi death camps, then hunted down war criminals for the remainder of his life, once said:

”When history looks back, I want people to know the Nazis weren’t able to kill millions of people and get away with it.”

I’m sorry to say, Mr. Weisenthal might be very disappointed to hear the major findings of this survey of American adults, which include:

• Seven out of ten Americans (70 percent) say fewer people seem to care about the Holocaust than they used to
• A majority of Americans (58 percent) believe something like the Holocaust could happen again

Claims Conference President Julius Berman noted, “On the occasion of Yom Hashoah, it is vital to open a dialogue on the state of Holocaust awareness so that the lessons learned inform the next generation.  We are alarmed that today’s generation lacks some of the basic knowledge about these atrocities.”

The study also found significant gaps in knowledge about the Holocaust:

• Nearly one-third of all Americans (31%) and more than 4-in-10 Millennials (41%) believe that substantially less than 6 million Jews were killed (two million or fewer) during the Holocaust
• While there were over 40,000 concentration camps and ghettos in Europe during the Holocaust, almost half of Americans (45%) cannot name a single one – and this percentage is even higher amongst Millennials. 
• The vast majority (84%) of American adults believe that the Holocaust took place mostly in Germany.  Yet, here’s the reality – not a single Jew was ever gassed in a camp within Germany.
• Most Americans (80 percent) have not visited a Holocaust museum

“This study underscores the importance of Holocaust education in our schools,” said Greg Schneider, Executive Vice President of the Claims Conference.  “There remain troubling gaps in Holocaust awareness while survivors are still with us; imagine when there are no longer survivors here to tell their stories. We must be committed to ensuring the horrors of the Holocaust and the memory of those who suffered so greatly are remembered, told and taught by future generations.”

Nothing is more telling of how idiotic people today have become, than to read how the video game Pokemon Go is related to the Holocaust:

• Visitors to the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland…have been caught playing Pokemon Go within the camp grounds and facilities.  
• It has been reported that one Pokemon Go user found a Koffing (a poison gas type Pokemon) in the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC.
• Wanna raise your blood pressure even further?  There are at least 4 different Pokestops at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City.

America, get your heads out of your collective ass and read a book once in awhile.  You’re starting to look and sound pretty stupid.

The Holocaust Knowledge and Awareness Study was commissioned by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.   Data was collected and analyzed by Schoen Consulting with a representative sample of 1350 American adults via landline, cell-phone, and online interviews.  Respondents were selected at random and constituted a demographically representative sample of the adult population in the United States.
