Was Canada Effective in World War II? ASK THE WORLD

I used to always state that Quora.com was a site where people could ask questions on any topic, and those who feel qualified attempt to answer them.¬† “It’s much like Yahoo! Answers”, I would further explain.¬† But it’s becoming increasingly clear that this is not a fair comparison.¬† ¬†It’s becoming more like a bunch of yahoos WITH answers making up answers.¬† And doing an even worse job with some of the questions.¬† Quora doesn’t make people stupid.¬† It just makes stupid people more accessible to the general public.¬† And as the old adage says – “stupidity is contagious, and there’s no known cure”.

The question popped up a few days ago, and I couldn’t believe it.¬† I also couldn’t keep quiet.¬† How dare the uneducated chatter class insult the memory of the tens of thousands of Canadians who gave their lives for our global freedom (yep, including the freedom of the brainwave that wrote this question, no matter where he or she lives).¬† This writer should be happy to discover that Canada was very effective in World War II, along with their Allied partners.¬† It’s why we aren’t speaking German or Japanese today.

WHAT FOLLOWS IS MY RESPONSE, word-for-word, to this highly controversial question.  Photos were later added for this blog article only.

You‚Äôll have to excuse my homeland of Canada – we were amiss apparently by not personally educating YOU on our war effectiveness from 1939‚Äď1945. Let‚Äôs fix that. There are a few people you should talk to:

  • Workman John Hawkins of Toronto checks the tags of Bren machine-guns at the John Inglis Co. plant in Toronto. Canada produced millions of arms for the Allied war effort. ¬© Archives Canada mikan-3197327

ASK THE BRITISH  how effective we were. Before we even sent a single man, gun, plane, tank or ship Рwe made sure to take care of the British people themselves.  Remember, they live on an island, and risked being isolated by the Nazis, after the war started in September 1939.

Canadian exports accounted for as much as 77% of British wheat and flour consumption in 1941, 39% of the bacon, 15% of the eggs, 24% of the cheese, and 11% of the evaporated milk that the British imported globally.

Abandoned British equipment on the beach at Dunkirk. Although 340,000 troops were evacuated from Dunkirk, the British Army left behind: 120,000 vehicles, 600 tanks, 1000 field guns, 500 anti-aircraft guns, 850 anti-tank guns, 8000 Bren guns, 90,000 rifles and half a million tons of stores and ammunition. (Credit: LIFE Magazine, 1940)

Britain also had to leave 75,000 of their 80,000 vehicles behind in the evacuation at Dunkirk in 1940. Virtually defenseless on the ground, Britain turned to Canada – and particularly the Canadian auto industry – to replace what had been lost. Canada not only replaced those losses – we also did much more.

Canada produced more than 800,000 military transport vehicles, 50,000 tanks, 40,000 field, naval, and anti-aircraft guns, and 1,700,000 small arms. 38% of this production was used by the British military alone. The Canadian Army “in the field” had a ratio of one vehicle for every three soldiers, making it the most mechanized field force in the war.

Canada also loaned $1.2 billion on a long-term basis to Britain immediately after the war; these loans were fully repaid in late 2006. That’s the equivalent of about $17.7 billion today.

  • Canadians landing at Juno Beach. (Credit: Le Conseil Regional De Basse-Normandie / Library and Archives Canada)

ASK THE FRENCH how effective we were. On June 6, 1944, 14,000 Canadian troops stormed Juno Beach, arriving on 110 Canadian ships and supported by 10,000 Canadian sailors, part of 150,000 Allied troops total, who were part of the greatest invasion by sea in world history. Canada was the only nation that captured its beach and fulfilled all Her orders on D-Day. We suffered over 1,000 casualties that day alone.

The French WILL tell you we were effective, by the way – they were occupied by the Germans for over 4 years – but then just 74 days after D-Day, we liberated Paris, and less than one year after D-Day, our little nation had assisted in bringing down the Third Reich completely – an empire that conquered 11 nations on 2 continents with 20 million battle-hardened troops, And Hitler was dead. Were we effective. They would shout a resounding ‚ÄúOui!‚ÄĚ

ASK THE DUTCH how effective we were. Our country welcomed Queen Juliana, Prince Bernhard and the other members of the Dutch royal family as our guests for 5 years, after the Nazis invaded their Kingdom in June 1940. Dutch Princess Margriet was born in Ottawa Civic Hospital.

Later, Canada almost single-handedly liberated the Netherlands from the Nazis on May 9, 1945, and the Dutch still celebrate Liberation Day (unofficially called ‚ÄúCanada Day‚ÄĚ) with Canadian flags flying in Amsterdam on that day, citizens still running to give our aged soldiers flowers as they march or ride in parades there.

In a decades-old Dutch tradition, schoolchildren visit the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten, Netherlands on Christmas Eve every year, where nearly 1,400 Canadian soldiers are buried, and they place candles on every grave. More immigrants arrived in Canada in the 1950s from the Netherlands than from any other nation in the world, including America. In fact, the 2016 Canadian Census reported 1,111,655 persons of Dutch origin living in Canada out of 37 million Canadians. Did they find us effective? They would say ‚Äúja!‚ÄĚ

  • In fact, I’d even recommend ASKING THE GERMANS how effective we were. Particularly the German troops that were garrisoned at the town of Zwolle, in the Netherlands. Canadian soldier L√©o Major was the only Canadian and one of only three soldiers in the British Empire and Commonwealth to ever receive the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) twice in separate wars. In 1945, he single-handedly liberated the city of Zwolle, the Netherlands from German army occupation. He was sent as a scout with one of his best friends, but he thought the town was too beautiful for a full scale attack. So the next rational option was to clear it out himself. A firefight broke out and his friend was killed, but that didn‚Äôt stop him – he put the commanders of each group of soldiers he found at gunpoint, and the entire unit would end up being taken prisoner as a result. He ended up taking nearly 100 Germans prisoner that night, until the entire city was clear of Nazis. He received his second DCM during the Korean War for leading the capture of a key hill in 1951.

Canada declared war in Germany just 7 days after Great Britain and France, and had troops in Europe literally weeks later. It would take a further 26 months before the United States would enter the War. By the time the War was over, Canada had over 1.1 million soldiers in uniform – about 33% of our entire adult male population.

At the end of the Second World War, Canada had one of the largest navies in the world, with 95,000 men and women in uniform, and 434 commissioned vessels including cruisers, destroyers, frigates, corvettes and auxiliaries.

During the 2,159 days that Canadian soldiers fought across Europe, Asia and Africa, 45,000 were killed, and 55,000 were injured. Those total casualties were equal to nearly 1 out of every 10 soldiers that served.

Canadians are not a blunt, brash or boasting lot. We are famous for apologizing for things that aren‚Äôt our fault. So let me say ‚ÄĚsorry‚ÄĚ to you in that vein – during the War, our armed forces were too busy making scraps to make a scrapbook for posterity. Many of our soldiers were gone for six years and then had to be re-integrated back into society after the War. We were also kind of busy burying our dead, and helping rebuild the world.

We’ll be sure to get it right for World War IIIwhich ironically will likely be started by someone like you, asking ill-advised, inflammatory questions like this.

(Editor’s Note:¬† The answer above certainly struck a nerve, which I’m thankful for!¬† ¬†In just the last 30 days alone, nearly 50,000 people on Quora.com read my answer above, and I received dozens of very kind comments.¬† I’ve shared my favorite at the end of this article.

I’m also honoured to have been “upvoted” over 2,900 times, which, according to Quora, means that these readers “believe I answered the question asked and contributed in a meaningful way to Quora’s repository of knowledge”.

If only the ORIGINAL QUESTION had been written with that same goal in mind.

And for the very first time in my life, I believe, something I’ve written has been painstakingly translated word for word into French, by a man I don’t know and have never spoken to before!¬† Merci beaucoup, Pierre Luc Gaudreault de Montr√©al!¬† You did an amazing job / Tu as fait un travail incroyable!

And it’s comments like these that truly make my blog, Quora, Youtube, Twitter…all worthwhile.¬† Thank you Raymond Li!

Germany, France and ¬†Russia Unite Against ISIS

In a surprise move Germany left the anti-Putin-alliance formed by the USA: Germany is now officially welcoming Moscow’s readiness to act in Syria and is starting an initiative together with the Russians and the French to bring an end to the war. This is to stop the constant stream of refugees. Germany has ordered thousands of soldiers into readiness.

Germany surprisingly left the alliance formed together with the United States which intended to block Russia’s entry into the Syrian conflict.

Minister of Defence Ursula von der Leyen told Der Spiegel that she welcomed president Putin‚Äôs intentions of joining the fight against the extremist organization ‚ÄúIslamic State‚ÄĚ. It would be a matter of mutual interests, she said.

A speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, Germany would welcome additional efforts of Russia in the fight against ISIS. Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier even announced the starting of a joint venture between him, Russian foreign minister Lavrov and their French colleague Laurent Fabius with the aim of bringing the Syrian civil war to an end. Lavrov and Fabius are expected to arrive in Berlin this Saturday.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called upon the US-Ministry of Defence to coordinate their efforts with the Russian military. Because both sides are actively invested in Syria it would be paramount for the US to reinstate the previously ceased operational cooperation with Russia, said Lavrov on Friday in Moscow. This was intended to avoid ‚Äúunintentional incidents‚ÄĚ.

Russia’s military drills in the Mediterranean would be in accordance to international law. Larvrov explained furthermore, that Russia would keep delivering weapons to the troops of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad to support their struggle against the extremist organization of Islamic State (IS).

Russia already began a diplomatic offensive weeks ago. The Americans did not precisely indicate whether they would support the Russian initiative. Under no circumstances would the US give Russia credit for solving the deadlocked situation, should Russia in fact be successful. Therefore the US-government warned precautionary of a worsening in the refugee crisis should Russia intervene.

Neoconservatives are issuing warnings about any cooperation with Russia in whatever matter. US-President Obama did not clearly state whether the Russian initiative was done in coordination with the White House. Foreign Minister John Kerry went on a surprise visit to Russia in spring which, however, remained without results regarding the Syrian matter. It is likely that the US-government changed their mind in the face of the worsening of the refugee crisis so that they are now willing to cooperate with Russia in the Middle East.

German Frank-Walther Steinmeier has long been trying to conciliate behind the curtains and is therefore constantly in touch with his Russian colleague Lavrov. It looks like he is the only one in the German government who realizes that the refugee crisis will get completely out of control if the war in the Middle East continues. Austria and Spain signaled days ago that a Russian participation in the battle against IS was crucial. Russia began expanding its military activities in Syria.

German Minister of Defence Ursula von der Leyen wants to expand the deployment of the Bundeswehr, the (German unified Armed Forces) in Iraq. They Bundeswehr would be ready to continue its successful work in Kurdish regions in cooperation with the Iraqi government, she told Der Spiegel on Saturday.

First steps would already be undertaken. Germany delivered medical supplies, helmets and hazard-protections masks. Up to 100 Bundeswehr soldiers are training Kurdish Peshmerga fighters in northern Iraq. Weapons were also delivered.

Von-der Leyen also ordered thousands of German soldiers into readiness in the wake of the refugee crisis. If this was done because of the refugees or hints of terror threats is still unknown. The order was given to the troops a day before, said a speaker of the ministry on Friday in response to a report by Der Spiegel. Up to 4,000 soldiers are under constant readiness to be deployed.

French forces also maintain a strong presence in Syria, since launching air strikes against the Assad and ISIS regimes late last year.¬† According to a Kurdish source, French troops stationed in northern Syria have also commenced constructing a military base near the city of Kobani in Aleppo province.¬† Currently, the government of France said military personnel deployed to Syria are working only in an advisory capacity to ‘democratic’ Kurdish-led group.

France has 2,500 men in its special forces, of whom around 400 are deployed in 17 countries, mainly in the Sahel, the military said.  French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian had indicated in early June, in remarks to a small state television channel covering French politics, that French troops were helping operations at Manbij.  The French nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is also in the region.

It looks like it’s the United States’ move now.¬† Clearly there are many groups today who feel the Obama has led a weak, emaciated and often confusing campaign in Syria, supporting some rebel groups in the region, and then announcing they have withdrawn funding or support for same – which would inevitably end with these allies’ deaths.¬† Some believe that Obama’s actions several years ago may actually have assisted in the creation of ISIS in the first place.

[Translators comment:
It has been reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called into question the effectiveness of the US-led coalition against Islamic State (IS). According to PNP magazine, he stated that concerned colleagues from within the US-led coalition turned to him. They informed him that the US military did not give clearances to their fighter pilots even though they clearly located and identified Islamic State positions.]

Iran Illegally Test-Fired Missiles (Yawn)

By Calling Out Community, Posted October 12, 2015. Updated January 17, 2016

On July 14, 2015, the P5+1 (China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States), the European Union (EU), and the Islamic Republic of Iran reached a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).  This, incidentally, is likely the most irrelevant, unrelated title for a document in history.

The JCPOA was sold to the general public as a way of ensuring that Iran does not pose a near or even distant danger to the world through its already-existent nuclear program, which it says is solely for energy generation purposes.

imagesHowever, as news reports about the JCPOA came out, and details were more clearly realized, we were shocked to discover just how badly this had been negotiated. The deal left far too many things on the table, and took off safeguards that seemed totally ludicrous.

One of the most notable was the blessing by the International Atomic Energy Agency for Iran to inspect some of its own facilities and report back its findings – though two senior U.S. officials told NBC News that the unusual arrangement between the IAEA and Tehran related only to “past military activity” and that UN inspectors, including IAEA Director Yukiya Amano, would be on site to supervise the Iranians at every step of the way.

Past military activity? That makes no sense – Iran has never yet built or used a nuclear weapon, so the entire program must be under suspicion for military use, or they wouldn’t have pushed to have an agreement to ensure it didn’t get used for evil.

The wolf was allowed to inspect the chicken coop, while the rest of us turkeys shook our heads in amazement.

q_60I and others believed that Iran would eventually show its true colors, however, and expose themselves for the conniving fraudsters that they are.¬† On October 11, 2015, they did just that, with the United States confirming that Iran had just tested a medium-range missile capable of delivering a nuclear weapon, in “clear violation” of a United Nations Security Council ban on ballistic missile tests.

The logic of this escapes me, if Iran is to be taken at face value in agreeing to this JCPOA. Why spend any time, energy, money or political capital to sign such an agreement on July 14, and then to test a ballistic missile on October 11 that would clearly rustle feathers?

Unless, of course, they meant to do this as a test of the United States’ will power and resolve.¬† They could have saved the missile fuel – we could have told them that the United States would do diddly squat about this.

Samantha-Power-Meme-10-14-2015The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, said in an October 21 statement:

“The United States is deeply concerned about Iran’s recent ballistic missile launch. After reviewing the available information, we can confirm that Iran launched on Oct. 10 a medium-range ballistic missile inherently capable of delivering a nuclear weapon. This was a clear violation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1929.¬†¬†The United States is preparing a report on the incident for the Security Council’s Iran Sanctions Committee and will raise the matter directly with Security Council members in the coming days,” Power said.

In the coming days?  Well, before the U.S. could act, on December 8, the New York Times reported that Iran had test-fired another ballistic missile in November:

“The Obama administration is facing another difficult choice with Iran: As Tehran takes apart much of its nuclear infrastructure to win sanctions relief, how vocally should the White House condemn Iranian violations of United Nations resolutions on other issues?

Based on the first responses Tuesday to reports that Iran had conducted yet another launch of a medium-range ballistic missile, the answer appears to be not very loudly. (emphasis mine)”

Then, on December 15, despite a new International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report that said Iran failed to fully cooperate with an investigation into its past nuclear weapons related work, the United States and the other members of the IAEA Board of Governors voted to close the book on this matter.  Unbelievable.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano addressing the December meeting of the Board of Governors. (Credit: D. Calma/IAEA)
IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano addressing the December meeting of the Board of Governors. (Credit: D. Calma/IAEA)

The above-stated¬†IAEA Director General‚Äôs Final Assessment on Past and Present Outstanding Issues Regarding Iran‚Äôs Nuclear Programme¬†indicated that Iran engaged in ‚Äúcoordinated‚ÄĚ nuclear weapons activities until 2003 and that some nuclear-weapons work continued until 2009 – a bombshell that contradicts a controversial 2007 intelligence estimate that Iran had given up nuclear-weapons work completely in 2003.

Regardless of all these major concerns, the Obama administration did NOTHING.¬† In fact, yesterday (Saturday, July 16) Obama announced it was #ImplementationDay, the day when the International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, says that Iran has curbed its nuclear program enough to begin receiving relief on sanctions, the terms of which were laid out in the JCPOA. “Today marks the moment that the Iran nuclear agreement transitions from an ambitious set of promises on paper to measurable action in progress,” U.S Secretary of State John Kerry announced Saturday in Vienna.

And today, January 17, the US announced it was imposing fresh sanctions on Iranian companies and individuals over the recent ballistic missile tests. The new sanctions prevent 11 entities and individuals linked to the missile program from using the US banking system.

untitledI’m sorry – pardon me?¬† Imagine, telling 11 Iranians that they are international¬†bad boys, and are now restricted from¬†using¬†their ATM cards in Chicago.¬†¬† Wow, don’t¬†go crazy and tell them that Burger King in Philadelphia is off limits to them too!

I’m sure they were laughing…all the way to the bank somewhere else.¬† What a joke. Iran test-fired, then tested the resolve of the United States and its allies related to this JCPOA – and won the day. In fact, President Obama even stated today that the sanctions lifted as part of the JCPOA deal were “smart”.

Oh, Obama, they were stupid as hell – and so are you.¬† And if you have led us to ruin over this deal, as many of your “fellow citizens” as possible will be demanding your arrest, trial for crimes against humanity. and then we’ll happily strap you to the ground at the projected ground zero of the first nuclear missile that Iran launches against the Israel or the West.

Let’s see if THAT finally…blows your mind.

Millions of Turkish Muslims Collect German Welfare

Islamic IslamRising: Special feature to the Calling Out Community, Posted December 24, 2015.  Updated December 30, 2015

Author Thilo Sarazzin

On September 9, 2010, the Washington Post ran a story about a German economist who had become the most talked-about man in Germany.  The 65-year-old had a hot new book, Deutschland Schafft Sich Ab (Germany Does Away With Itself Рin its 7th printing with 300,000 copies sold), and a sudden groundswell of popular support that had the German media dubbing him a folk hero.

But some were scared of Thilo Sarrazin as well. As the Post told it:

Some are calling him dangerous. Sarrazin, a board member of the German Central Bank until he resigned under pressure Thursday, has divided the nation by postulating the theory that Germany is being “dumbed down” by Muslim immigrants and their children. Wielding statistics and scientific arguments both in his book and in public comments, he delves into territory largely taboo here since the Holocaust, suggesting that “hereditary factors” are at least partly to blame. Turks and Kurdish immigrants, he asserts, are genetically predisposed to lower intelligence than Germans and other ethnic groups, including Jews.

Though most of his supporters publicly kept a distance from him and his ideas, they also had to admit that at least he was willing to address the problem of Muslim immigrants, who are often the antithesis of the German language and culture.

He dared speak the truth about higher immigrant unemployment, birthrates and welfare rates among German’s immigrants. ¬†Approximately 5% of Germany’s population of 82 million was Muslim at that time – more than 4 million people – and most were of Turkish descent.

Muslim call to prayer, in the streets of a German city

A poll published in the national magazine Focus that same week showed 31% of respondents agreeing that Germany is “becoming dumber” because of immigrants, with 62% calling Sarrazin’s comments “justified” and 52 percent saying he shouldn’t be thrown out of his Social Democratic Party because of them.

Those Party chiefs had been inundated with thousands of e-mails supporting Sarrazin. High-profile politicians, including Chancellor Angela Merkel, strongly condemned him. But others praised him for bringing Muslim immigration concerns to the forefront of the national dialogue.

Fast forward to March 31, 2013, and an article in Frontpage Magazine¬†was a bit of a shocker: ¬†“80% OF TURKISH MUSLIM SETTLERS IN GERMANY LIVE OFF WELFARE“. According to the article:

Three million Turks live in Germany already, while 2.5 million of them have German nationality, and the majority of them are conservative Muslims.

Very few Turks in Germany have a regular job: about 20%. The other 80% live on the so-called Hartz IV (state social benefits). 70% of their children have no GCSE; they left school before they finished their basic education.

img_4814According to the German state benefit system, every adult citizen who was an unemployed German national, and who could not find an appropriate job, was entitled at that time to get monthly 482 ‚ā¨ ($700CA, December 2015). ¬†Parents also received 200 ‚ā¨ ($303CA) for each child under 18 years old, plus all their monthly expenditures in terms of rent, heating, power, health insurance, and public transport.

Some Turks who lived on the generous state benefits were rumoured to be even buying houses or apartments and were at times driving luxurious cars like Mercedes or BMW.

German legislators still didn’t see a problem when, by November 2014, Hartz IV legislation officially provided state benefits to some six million people, of whom 4.3 million were employable and about 1.7 million were children under 15 years of age.

If people refused or were unable to keep up with requirements made by job centres, they are threatened with sanctions – a further reduction to the then-‚ā¨399 ($605CA) a month for a single person (plus rent and heating allowances).

In August 2014, an unbelievable 140,000 such unemployed adults and 35,000 under-25s received at least one sanction. You’d think, if one was going to lose an average of ‚ā¨123 ($187cA for adults) or ‚ā¨107 ($162CA for under-25), you’d want to fulfill the requirements! ¬†But if you had a house full of such deadbeats, you don’t worry too much about losing some funds, if it means you still can collect some benefits at least¬†while doing nothing.

Now you can understand why Islamic immigrants are flocking to Germany ¬†by the hundreds of thousands.¬†Bear with us for a moment, because¬†it’s¬†critically important that you see the true scope of this problem:

  • In 2015, Germany will spend about ‚ā¨12,500 euros ($18,000CA) per new refugee/migrant crossing into their country from across Europe and the Middle East.
  • With 800,00 new migrants coming to Germany this year, it will cost them approx. ‚ā¨10 Billion (or $15 BILLION CA) just to process and settle these new migrants.
  • But that’s only part of the story – Germany already has more than 4 million Turkish Muslims – and 80% are unemployed and on welfare.
  • At approx. ‚ā¨399/month for each of these welfare recipients (based on a single adult with no children) the cost to Germany annually just for the Turkish Muslims alone is a minimum of ‚ā¨15.3 Billion (more than $23 Billion CA).
  • All told then, in 2015 alone, Germany has spent more than ‚ā¨25 Billion ($38 Billion CA) on the refugees within its borders.¬† That’s out of a total federal budget of ‚ā¨300 Billion ($451 Billion CA) or 8% of their annual budget!
  • Even more horrifying, the total budget just for social spending on welfare, unemployment insurance and other related benefits in Germany¬†was a¬†staggering ‚ā¨142 Billion ($213 Billion CA), according to the German Federal Ministry of Finance website and that’s just for the first 11 months (to November 30)!¬† That’s already 47% of their total budget.
  • Germany will spend more on its current and previous¬†landed refugees this year than on any other single department, other than Defense and Social Insurance.
Just one question:  ARE THESE PEOPLE INSANE?

In a November 2015 article about Islamic immigrants in Europe, the Pew Research Institute stated that:

Germany and France have the largest Muslim populations among European Union member countries. As of 2010, there were 4.8 million Muslims in Germany (5.8% of the country’s population) and 4.7 million Muslims in France (7.5%). In Europe overall, however, Russia’s population of 14 million Muslims (10%) is the largest on the continent.

Yet, even though Germans are now paying out welfare benefits for millions of Turkish Muslims alone, they still view Muslims favourably, which makes little sense.  In fact, only 36% of German right-wing nationals had an unfavourable view, with just 15% on the left.

And the situation is bound to get worse – according to DNA India, India’s leading English daily newspaper, a record 800,000 refugees are expected in Germany in 2015. ¬†More than 200,000 arrived in September 2015¬†alone.

Deutschland Welle, an English-language service in Germany,¬†reports that’s in 2013, Germany spent around 1.5 billion euros ($1.67 billion) on allowances for asylum seekers, or about 12,500 euros per refugee per year, according to official statistics. If per capita costs stay the same, Berlin might find itself spending as much as 10 billion euros in 2015 ($20.6 billion)¬†to feed, house and teach German to the new arrivals. ¬†Germany approved their 2015 annual expense budget at 300 billion euros¬†($454.8CAbillion) total – meaning refugee costs¬†account for 15% of total spending. ¬†That’s ludicrous.

Be warned Canada, it’s this kind of lunacy that we find ourselves in the midst of today.¬† We at the Calling Out Community are never going to “drink the¬† government Kool-aid”¬†concerning refugees.¬† This country was founded upon the legal immigration of hundreds of thousands who came here, not for a great welfare rate, but to pull up their sleeves and join the rest of us in building this great country.¬† Let them prove themselves over the course of the first year by finding a job and working toward¬†self-sufficiency-¬†or they need to get out.¬†

Knowing the current Liberal government’s way of thinking, however, the refugees in question are unlikely to be found at our nation’s airports in a year’s time, being escorted out of the country.¬† Rather, they’ll be queued at provincial welfare centres across Canada. ¬†Expect to pay a hell of a lot more in taxes to feed and clothe them too.

And expect that this problem, once brought into our country, will never go away.

The “Hitler” Store in Gaza

Islamic IslamRising: Special feature to the Calling Out Community, Posted November 5, 2015.

gaza-hitler-store-with-knivesThe antiSemitic hatred that simmers just below the surface in the Islamic world has recently been blatantly exposed in a rather unexpected place Р the closets of young people across the Middle East.

A clothing store with a location in the Gaza Strip has emerged, with a moniker that instantly brings fear, dread and hatred… to the blue jean business?

HITLER.

Let me state first that Hitler is not an Arab word.  Hitler translated into Arabic, is, um, still Hitler.

And no, this is not brand of some cutting edge designer with an unfortunate shared last name.  The store is named after Adolf Hitler, the man who brought about the genocide of six million European Jews.

This is obviously shocking to citizens of Western powers, as this store would never get any traction here – no one wants to be blatantly associated with such ill-advised branding.

However, in this region, Hitler is a wildly popular store.  Why?  Because the leader of the Nazis is a role model for millions of Arab Muslims across the globe.

Amin Al Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, meets with Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in Jerusalem, November 1942, just weeks before the Final Solution was implemented.

The connection between the two groups, both hell-bent on the destruction of the Jews, began long before the Holocaust even started, with a meeting of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Adolf Hitler, leader of the government of Nazi Germany.  While there are rumors that the Mufti suggested to Hitler ways to eradicate the Jews there is no hard evidence of same.

During World War II¬†the Grand Mufti¬†collaborated with both Italy and Germany by making propagandistic radio broadcasts and by helping the Nazis recruit Bosnian Muslims for the Waffen-SS. ¬†When he met Adolf Hitler he requested backing for Arab independence and support in opposing the establishment in Palestine of a Jewish national home. At war’s end, he came under French protection, and then sought refuge in Cairo to avoid prosecution. ¬†In 1943, he was quoted:

It is the duty of Muhammadans [Muslims] in general and Arabs in particular to … drive all Jews from Arab and Muhammadan countries…¬†. Germany is also struggling against the common foe who oppressed Arabs and Muhammadans in their different countries. It has very clearly recognized the Jews for what they are and resolved to find a definitive solution [endg√ľltige L√∂sung] for the Jewish danger that will eliminate the scourge that Jews represent in the world.

Flash forward to September 29, 2015 when it was reported by eminent media outlets such as the ¬†BBC in the UK, the Globe and Mail¬†in¬†Canada, and the New York Times¬†that a store named “Hitler” was selling clothing in the city of Ahmedabad¬†in India.¬† After a massive world-wide backlash against the store, the owner agreed to change the name.¬† And though the shop owner¬†was using both Hitler’s last name AND a swastika in his logo, he attempted to deny intent by¬†¬†stating that¬†he didn’t know who Hitler even was before he named the store.¬† That kind of blatant idiocy, real or imaged, has no place in a civilized society.¬† Nor should the name Hitler be used to sell ANYTHING.

The “Hitler” Store In Gaza

Now this week, YET ANOTHER store named ‚ÄúHitler‚ÄĚ has arisen, this time in the Gaza Strip, and yet this time, no worldwide anger.¬† NO disgust with the naming of the store after a¬†monster responsible for the deaths of 50 million people around the world during the Second World War.¬† In fact, not a single major news network has even picked up the store, relegating its telling to second-rate publications like the Washington Free Beacon, whatever that is.

But this store gone beyond the levels of human decency and in my opinion, should be forced to shut down.  It proudly displays clothing mannequins outside the store, wrapped in Palestinian Authority colors, and brandishing KNIVES Рas Palestinians continue to wage knife attacks on Israelis in the region.

In a¬†photo posted to Facebook by Mohammed Asad, a self-described “photo journalist”, two mannequins are seen outside a store holding Palestinian flags and wielding knives. They are flanked by two more mannequins wearing scarves with the pattern of the Palestinian flag on them.

‚ÄúA Palestinian man display manikin wearing national clothes to show solidarity with the al-Aqsa mosque compound [and] Palestinians in the West Bank, at his shop, in Gaza city, on Nov. 01, 2015,‚ÄĚ the photographer captioned.

In Gaza, among the pious Muslims who call themselves “Palestinians” ‚ÄĒa faux nationality invented by the KGB‚ÄĒHitler is a used as a means of selling clothes.¬† And inciting Palestinians to violence against Israelis is unforgiveable.¬†¬†Is it any wonder that they are now referred by some as IslamoNazis as IslamoNazis?

You dare not speak the name Adolf Hitler in Gernany today, nor brandish the swastika symbol in public, for fear of arrest.¬† They got the message.¬† Too bad the poor little Palestinian “victims” don’t. ¬†Despite an agreement to lessen violence brokered by the United States late last month, Palestinians have continued to target Israelis for several weeks, using knives, guns, and other weapons to carry out the attacks.

downloadAccording to Israeli authorities, Palestinians murdered 10 Israelis in over 30 separate attacks just in October. Dozens of Palestinians have also died in clashes with Israeli security forces, nearly half of them after attacking Israelis.

Until they can act like civilized members of society, the Palestinians deserve our contempt and our worldwide sanctions. ¬†Its a good thing for the Palestinians that Israel perpetrates neither apartheid nor a Holocaust against them, or they’d¬†already be decimated for such outrageous and provocative displays.¬† The store owners should be either arrested for inciting violence or fined into bankruptcy.

Never again means NEVER AGAIN.

The Queen’s Historic Visit… to Hell

by Calling Out Community, Posted June 28, 2015

IMG_2143Queen Elizabeth II has become accustomed to countless milestones during her decades on the throne:

  • In December 2007, she became the longest living British monarch, overtaking Victoria who died when she was 81 (the Queen recently turned 89 on April 21!)
  • On May 12, 2011, she became the second-longest reigning monarch in British history, when she overtook George III
  • Her Majesty is the first monarch to have sent an email, to have a message put on the moon, have conducted a royal ‘walkabout’ and to have held a public concert in her back garden.
  • imagesAccording to the Guinness Book of World Records, Her¬†Majesty’s face is shown today on more currencies (35) than anyone else in human history. ¬†Queen Victoria appeared on 19, King George V on 21.
  • On June 6, 2012,¬†the Queen’s¬†Diamond Jubilee Pageant also broke a World Record for the largest parade of boats (670) in human history.
  • On September 9, 2015, Queen Elizabeth II¬†will overtake Queen Victoria, her great-great-grandmother, to become the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

Yet, of all the various accomplishments and achievements in the 63-year reign of our Queen, perhaps none were as noble, symbolic and as highly¬†impressive as her official visit this past Friday, June 26…

…to the infamous Nazi concentration camp at Bergen-Belsen in Germany.

IMG_2144In a highly unusual and very symbolic move, Her Majesty and Prince Philip laid a wreath together at the memorial  of the camp, on the final day of her state visit to Germany.  She later met with several survivors of the camp, to hear their stories.  And we salute her today for doing that.

70 years ago this Spring, on April 15, 1945, British troops entered the first of several Nazi concentration camps at a place called Bergen-Belsen near Hanover, Germany Рtheir first true glimpse of the Holocaust since the start of the War. Rumors about these camps had swirled since 1942 across Europe, but nothing could prepare the horrified soldiers who walked through the camp gates that day.

They soon discovered that the facility, built to hold 10,000 people, was filled to overflowing with nearly 60,000 critical ill and starving prisoners, amidst rotting piles containing over 13,000 unburied corpses.   The average weight of those still alive was 25-30 kg (50-60 pounds).   Sanitation facilities were designed for about 1/8 the number of people who lived there, and soon disease spread like wildfire.

The death toll at Bergen-Belsen was catastrophic. ¬†Almost 20,000 Soviet prisoners of war and a further 50,000 ‘undesirable” prisoners¬†died here – gypsies, homosexuals, those too sick to work at other prisoner of war camps, and thousands of evacuees from other death camps that were being overrun by Allied troops near the end of the war.

Anne Frank, 1942

The death toll also included nearly 2,750 children.  One of them was a bright eyed 15-year old girl, who died of typhus along with her sister Margot in February or March 1945 at Bergen-Belsen Рjust two out of thousands in the camp that month.  Years later, her father (the only surviving member of her family) found her diaries of life in the Netherlands during the Nazi occupation, and felt it was a compelling enough story to approach a publisher with.  Het Achterhuis (The Diary of a Young Girl or The Diary of Anne Frank) has since been translated into 65 languages and has sold over 30 million copies around the world Рand it remains a voice from the graves at Bergen-Belsen to our world to present day.

Article of memories from British troops at the liberation of Bergen-Belsen. London Evening Star, September 1945.

Nearly¬†20,000¬†of the camp’s prisoners died¬†of typhus in the first few months of 1945, shortly before liberation. ¬†A further 13,000 died after liberation – at a rate of nearly 500 a day – from disease and the effects of the Nazi-ordered severe¬†malnutrition. ¬†In fact, of the nearly 20,000 Jews alone that were transported to the camp, only¬†around 2,560 were ever actually transported from Bergen-Belsen and released.

British military leadership, including Prime Minister Winston Churchill, were so¬†enraged by what they saw, they ensured that photos of the atrocities were published in papers across the United Kingdom and around the world. ¬†The photos¬†shocked a society that couldn’t believe such inhumanity could exist.

950142-queen-elizabeth-world-war-iiThough in some ways shielded from the horrors of the War, the Queen’s¬†own family was a target of the¬†Nazis, who felt there would be¬†few greater ¬†propaganda coups¬†than to kill King George VI. ¬†On the night of¬†September 19, 1940, they nearly succeeded when a German Luftwaffe pilot dropped a bomb on Buckingham Palace, an event elevating the reluctant, stammering monarch to hero king in the eyes of the people. ¬† And when she became of age,¬†the¬†19-year old Princess Elizabeth enlisted to serve her country with the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service, training¬†as a driver and mechanic and was promoted to honorary Junior Commander five months later.

For 63 years since, unaccustomed to public displays of emotion or embroiling herself in any type of controversial affair if possible, she has seen the rise of anti-Semitism again in Europe, and the Jewish race and the State of Israel being maligned in the press every day for contrived crimes against humanity.  Of course, there are always going to be those who somehow think that the Holocaust was a myth.  And just like those who faced the Nazi death camps of the 1940s, Jews worldwide once again face the prospects of another Holocaust at the hands of Hamas, the PLO, ISIS, the Arab League and other hostile nations, all who have one stated goal Рthe eradication of the Jews.

And into the midst of all that constant left wing hate-filled propaganda, a¬†perfectly-coiffed, diminutive little 89-year old woman in her perfectly-tailored, beautiful black designer frock with matching shoes, hat, gloves and purses¬†– with all the dignity and poise that she commands, slowly and deliberately¬†walked with her 94-year old spouse up the long, lonely paved pathway to¬†Bergen-Belsen…

… to walk with her head held high through the main gates of Hell itself.

Queen-Elizabeth-II-at-her-Coronation-kings-and-queens-6886027-279-458It matters that she was there.  It matters that this specific woman would recognize the horrors of the Holocaust, especially at this time in history, and the plight of its victims, including the millions of Jews who were butchered by the Nazis.  For she is not just some over-rated celebrity, some polarizing local political figure, or some has-been entertainer.

12 British Prime Ministers, 12 Presidents of the United States, 11 Canadian Prime Ministers, and 7 Papal Heads of the Catholic Church have come and gone during her 63-year reign.  She is Queen Elizabeth the Second of Great Britain, Ireland, Northern Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, Defender of the Faith, Head of the Commonwealth, Queen of Antigua, Australia, Barbuda, the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea. Saint Christopher and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and of Her other Realms and Territories, Supreme Governor of the Church of England, and patron of 600 organizations and charities.

imagesIt matters that she was there. ¬†And as our Queen¬†left this ghastly place, after hearing from several of its survivors, she¬†was overheard stating in hushed tones, “it’s difficult to imagine”.

We agree your Majesty – but we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being there regardless. ¬†You didn’t do it to be politically correct, because you’re swimming upstream if you did¬†– the Holocaust is all but a distant memory. ¬†There was no current anniversary to celebrate at the camp, no plaque to unveil, no tree to plant, no babies to kiss. thankfully no new buildings to dedicate there. ¬†You went for one reason – because we should¬†remember. ¬† You didn’t have to go there – you’re 89, you could have taken a break from all the frenetic scheduling and put your royal feet up on your majestic ottoman in your palatial den. ¬†But you didn’t.

That’s why one million people came to cheer for you as you stepped onto your Palace balcony on your¬†Diamond Anniversary in 2012. ¬†You have survived the outlandish treatment of the leftwing press for decades, political scandals, your own children’s marital problems, and the changing of the British Empire into the British Commonwealth. ¬†All around you shifting sand, but you have remained steadfast. ¬†You are the Elizabeth of World War II – you are the mechanic and driver doing her part for the effort. ¬†We love you so much¬†for keeping your promise as that¬†young girl who stated to the world in a radio address on your 21st birthday:

I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.’

IMG_1261You have kept a steady hand on this global ship for 6 decades, and your presence at Bergen-Belsen¬†gave a stronger voice to the millions who died in the Holocaust. ¬†You are also well aware that the rumblings of history are once again being felt against the Jewish race, and that it¬†is the influence¬†of powerful world leaders like yourself that can¬†keep this from ever happening again. ¬†Today, I applaud you, your Majesty, for standing up for what is right in a time when the world doesn’t know what that means anymore.

God save our gracious Queen!  Long live our noble Queen!
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious, Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us, God save the Queen.

Thy choicest gifts in store On her be pleased to pour,
Long may she reign.
May she defend our laws, And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice, God save the Queen.
