The Glorious Church #3 – Against All Odds

For 2,000 years, the Church has either been up…or getting up off the floor. ¬†She has withstood more opposition than any other single institution in history, with more challenges to her very existence over the last 2,000 years than She should ever have been able to withstand…

Yet stand she does, bearing the scars of many battles, both internal and external, over many centuries. The Church should not even exist today РHer continuous presence over 2,000 years defies logic and reason, and leaves one with only one possible rationale Рthe hand of God Himself must be resting upon Her.  Today, as we conclude this series on the Body Christ, we catch a glimpse of her true character demonstrated through the centuries Рthat of the Church Triumphant.

Jesus Christ¬†was arrested, sentenced to death and crucified. Most of his followers scattered, including Peter, Jesus’ choice as new Head of the Church, who denied Christ three times that night.¬† Jesus is buried in a borrowed tomb. He arose the third day, appearing to his disciples and then ascending back to Heaven, commanding the Church to go into the whole world and spread His message. For the first 300 years, most of those who did were executed for their faith.

Apostle James was arrested and led to execution. His unnamed accuser was moved by his courage, and not only repented and converted, but asked to be executed beside James. Both were beheaded.

Apostle Philip became a missionary in Asia. He traveled to the Egyptian city of Heliopolis, where he was scourged, thrown into prison, and crucified

Apostle Simon the Canaanite AKA the Zealot visited Britain twice, and on the 2nd mission, he was crucified there.

Apostle James (possibly the brother of Jesus) was elected the head of the Church in Jerusalem. At age 94, he was beaten and stoned by persecutors, who then killed him by hitting him in the head with a club.

Beginning of Roman persecution of Christians, under Emperor Nero, who blamed the Church for the Great Fire of Rome in AD 64. Some historians think he ordered the fire and blamed Christians because they were already hated. Many Christians died at this time.

Apostle Peter, first Head of this new Early Church, was arrested under orders of Emperor Nero and was crucified upside down at his own request

Emperor Nero condemned Apostle Paul to death by decapitation.

Apostle Andrew, the brother of Peter, went to Patras in western Greece, where the Roman proconsul Aegeates had him scourged, tied rather than nailed to a cross, so he would suffer longer. He lived for two days, during which he preached to passersby.

Apostle Bartholomew preached in several countries, including India, where he translated the Gospel of Matthew for believers. IThere, he was skinned alive and then beheaded.

Apostle Thaddeus, according to several stories, crucified at Edessa

“Doubting” Thomas went to preach the gospel in Greece and India, where he angered local religious authorities, who martyred him by running him through with a spear on December 21.

Apostle Matthew, former tax collector turned missionary was martyred in Ethiopia, where he was supposedly stabbed in the back by a swordsman sent by King Hertacus after he criticized the king’s morals.

Emperor Domitian revived the practice of the imperial cult, which had fallen somewhat out of use under Vespasian. Significantly, his first act as an Emperor was the deification of his brother Titus. In 95 AD, Domitian executed or exiled several family members on charges of “atheism”. Members of the Senate were terrified of him, but in the end, he was assassinated by them.

The Apostle John was the only one of the original disciples not to die a violent death. According to Tertullian (in The Prescription of Heretics), John was to be plunged into boiling oil in the Colosseum in Rome, which seated between 50,000 and 80,000 people. But a great miracle took place, and John did not suffer any harm. Historians reported that the entire audience of the Colosseum were converted to Christianity because of this great miracle, during the reign of Emperor Domitian. John was then banished for the rest of his life to the Isle of Patmos.  There, he received the Revelation of Jesus, which became the last Book of the Bible. He died there, 30 years after the other Apostles.

Simeon, cousin of Jesus and Bishop of Jerusalem, was killed for political (anti-Semitic) reasons

Ignatius, bishop of Antioch, martyred in Rome

Polycarp was one of the greatest stories of¬†martyrdom¬†in the history of the Early Church. A 2nd-century Christian bishop of Smyrna, he had been a disciple of the Apostle John. He died a martyr, bound and burned at the stake, but the flames would not burn him. So he was stabbed when the fire wouldn’t kill him, but he bled out so much, he put out the fire.

Emperor Septimius Severus forbids conversions to Christianity Judaism)

Emperor Decius decrees Empire-wide persecution of the Church. Many Christians were killed, and others denied the faith to escape persecution – which heavily influenced the development of Christianity, shaping Christian theology and the structure of the Church – and helped spark explanations and defenses of the Christian religion.

Roman Emperor Constantine the Great had become a Christian believer.¬† Emperor Licinius had wed Constantine’s half-sister Constantia, and the two leaders split the empire between them. Constantine issued the Edict of Milan, which granted rights to Christians and restored their property. Licinius was not a believer, however, and within 7 years, he marched against Constantine – both wanted the entire Roman Empire. In 320, Licinius expelled believers from the army and civil service and killed some for their faith.

Christianity was never so faithful to the Cross than under persecution When Christianity was made the state church of the Roman Empire in 380 AD, the Church became corrupt and barbaric. In AD 392, pagan religions were outlawed, and Christian monks persecuted them and robbed from their temples. Pagans were forced out of government offices by AD 416 to demand they convert.

In September, 476 AD, the last Roman emperor, Romulus Augustulus, was deposed by a Germanic prince, and the Dark Ages began in Europe Рa time when the Church took great control over the people and brought much evil and paganism into the Church

The cause of this “Dark Age” was the collapse of the Western Roman Empire and the waves of invasions that followed. Many believed the Church caused or significantly contributed to the fall of the Western Empire, and the resulting corruption of the leaders of the Church in Rome damaged the reputation of the Church to this day.

Pope Gregory encouraged Augustine to go to the Anglo Saxons to be a missionary, but encouraged him to turn the pagan temples he found into Churches, keep some of the pagan ceremonies and incorporate them into Christianity – which was totally blasphemous.

During the Saxon Wars, the Christian king Charlemagne waged war on the pagan Saxons for over 20 years, seeking to Christianize and rule them. In AD 782, Charlemagne massacred 4,500 rebel Saxon prisoners and made it a law that one must convert to Christianity….or die. The Saxons were the last groups to be converted by Christian missionaries, and mostly because of death threats.

The East-West Schism, also called the Great Schism, was the church split between present Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox churches, which has lasted since the 11th century. Three men all claimed to be Pope at the same time, causing a split for the next 1,000 years. Under a mysterious set of circumstances, Pope Francis and the Patriarch of the Orthodox Church met urgently together in 2017 for reasons unknown, for the first time in 1,000 years. The head of the Orthodox Church then went to Antarctica and performed a bizarre ceremony, consecrating the land to God.

The First Crusade (1095‚Äď1099) attempted to recapture the Holy Land, called for by Pope Urban II at the Council of Clermont in 1095. Crusaders conquered the Holy Land, culminating in the July 1099 re-conquest of Jerusalem and the establishment of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

A great defeat for Christian armies, the only significant success of the Second Crusade came when 13,000 Flemish, Frisian, Norman, English, Scottish, and German crusaders in 1147 travelled from England to Portugal, where they stopped and helped the Portuguese army expel the Muslims from their capital Lisbon.

The Third Crusade , also known as The Kings’ Crusade, was an attempt by European leaders to reconquer the Holy Land from Saladin. They conquered Acre and Jaffa, reversing most of Saladin’s conquests, but didn’t capture Jerusalem. The Pope had a heart attack and died when he heard the news about Jerusalem.

The Fourth Crusade, called by Pope Innocent III, originally intended to reconquer Muslim-controlled Jerusalem by means of an invasion through Egypt. Instead, a series of events ended with the Crusaders sacking the city of Constantinople, the capital of the Christian-controlled Byzantine Empire.

The Fifth Crusade was an attempt by Western Europeans to re-conquer Jerusalem and the rest of the Holy Land by first conquering the powerful Ayyubid state in Egypt. Their attacks on Jerusalem ended in defeat

The Sixth Crusade started as an attempt to regain Jerusalem but involved very little fighting. The Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick II negotiated the Kingdom of Jerusalem into regaining some control over Jerusalem for most of the next fifteen years (1229‚Äď39, 1241‚Äď44) as well as over other areas of the Holy Land.

The Seventh Crusade was led by King Louis IX of France, but he was defeated by the Egyptian army, and captured by the Muslim armies, who demanded 800,000 gold coins for his release and return to France.

The Eighth Crusade was launched again by Louis IX of against the city of Tunis, but he died just after arriving on the shores of Tunisia, with his disease-ridden army dispersing back to Europe shortly afterwards.

King Edward sailed to Acre, Israel, and saw several impressive victories Рbut he eventually had to withdraw because of issues at home. Soon after, the last remaining crusader stronghold on the Mediterranean coast was destroyed.  The last Crusade had been lost.

The King and Queen of Spain, Ferdinand and Isabella began this horrific reign of terror against Jews, pagans, Muslims and anyone else that would convert to Christianity. The nightmare went on for over 250 years, and saw 150,000 convicted of “crimes”, and up to 5,000 executed

The Protestant Reformation was a church split in Western Christianity initiated by Martin Luther and continued by John Calvin and others in 16th-century Europe. It started with the publication of the Ninety-five Theses by Martin Luther in 1517. Catholic doctrine teaches to this day that Protestant Christians will not go to Heaven and ironically, Protestants believe the same of most Catholics.

The major target of the Portuguese Inquisition were those who had converted from Judaism to Catholicism, but were thought to still be practising Jews. Many of these were originally Spanish Jews who had left Spain for Portugal, when Spain forced Jews to convert to Christianity or leave. The number sentenced is estimated at around 40,000 and over 1,000 were executed.

The Church begins to target itself for annihilation when this Inquisition was declared by the Pope in Rome. Responsible for prosecuting individuals accused of committing offenses relating to heresy, including Protestantism, sorcery, immorality, blasphemy, Judaizing and witchcraft, as well as for censorship of printed literature. The most famous victims were Copernicus, who devised a theory that the Sun was at the center of the universe, and the famed astronomer Galileo, who was put under house arrest for the rest of his life. Between 50,000 and 70,000 cases were tried, and 1,500 were executed.

The Catholic Church elevated Mary to the level of mediator, advocate, and co-redeemer of humanity, in direct contradiction of Scriptures. Pope Pius IX declared Mary ‚Äúimmaculate,‚ÄĚ or sinless, thus giving her the position of mediator, in opposition to 1 Timothy 2:5:”For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”.

The number of Catholics killed in Mexico from the late 1800s to 1930 is estimated at 107,000,

The Boxer Rebellion in China is responsible for at least 200,000 Christians and foreigners being executed.

Czar Nicholas and his family are assassinated in the Russian Revolution, and Christianity is declared illegal by the  Communists. The state advocated the destruction of religion, and it pronounced religion to be superstitious and backward. The Communist Party destroyed churches, ridiculed, harassed, incarcerated and executed religious leaders, flooded the schools and media with anti-religious teachings. The total number of Christian victims under the Soviet regime has been estimated to range between 14-22 million.

Atheists and neo-Nazis today like to claim Adolf Hitler was a Christian – nothing could be further from the truth. Under the dictator and his Nazi Party, thousands of Lutheran pastors were executed, along with up to 1 million Christian believers during the war.

An estimated 700,000 Christians are martyred by Communist China.

Before World War II missionaries were active throughout the Korean Peninsula, then a Japanese colony, and more than a fifth of the population was Christian – about 2 million people. Between 300,000 and 500,000 Christians are believed to remain in North Korea today, with hundreds of thousands sent to the largest concentration camp system in the world.

300,000 Christians are believed to have been killed under Idi Amin in Uganda between 1971 and 1979.

Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda, The Taliban and ISIS begin a reign of terror throughout the world against the Church of Jesus Christ.  In this photo, Boko Haram set fire to a Nigerian church, murdering dozens of Christians

PetroChina was introduced to the world on Shanghai’s stock exchange just 10 years ago.  Recently, it has begun to drop like a stone on the same exchange – losing a world-record $800 billion in market value – an amount which could purchase every listed company on Italy’s stock exchange, or circle the Earth 31 times with $100 bills.  And it’s only going to get worse.

Bloomberg reported on October 29, 2017 that PetroChina Co. had just suffered the biggest stock slump in world history – yet analysts are not yet convinced that it has finally hit bottom.  The state-owned energy producer has lost so much money, it’s now considered the world‚Äôs biggest-ever wipeout of shareholder wealth. And it may only get worse. If the average analyst estimate compiled by Bloomberg proves right, PetroChina‚Äôs Shanghai shares will sink 16 percent to an all-time low in the next 12 months.  If you’ve followed us for any period, you may recall that we reported on July 8, 2015 that China at that time had just had a shocking drop to its stock market of $3.2 TRILLION… in just 3 weeks.

READ IT AGAIN: China Stocks Drop $3.2 TRILLION in 3 Weeks

For years, the economic policies of the People‚Äôs Republic of China have caused shock waves throughout Europe and North America, as the Chinese significantly undervalued their currency to give themselves an unfair trading advantage, according to the United States and the International Monetary Fund.  Now, it seems that karma has finally bit China in its assets.

The stock has been pummeled by some of China’s biggest economic policy shifts of the past decade, including the government’s move away from a commodity-dependent model (which Canada also needs to break free from) and its attempts to clamp down on speculation on the Shanghai and other stock exchanges that turned PetroChina into the world’s first trillion-dollar company in 2007.

This, plus the fact that oil has dropped over 44% in the last 10 years, as well as Chinese President Xi Jinping’s ambitious plans to promote electric vehicles, and it’s easy to see why analysts are still freaking out about this stock. It doesn’t help that PetroChina shares trade at 36 times its estimated 12-month earnings Рwhich, according to Bloomberg, is 53% more propped up than its global oil company competitors.

‚ÄúIt‚Äôs going to be tough times ahead for PetroChina,‚ÄĚ said Toshihiko Takamoto, a Singapore-based money manager at Asset Management One, which oversees about $800 million in Asia. ‚ÄúWhy would anyone want to buy the stock when it‚Äôs trading for more than 30 times earnings?‚ÄĚ  For example, Intel, the global tech giant, is currently selling for a price-to-earnings ratio of about 15.6 – and that stock is just now being recommended.

What must be making investors very nervous is the fact that many of the factors behind PetroChina‚Äôs slump have been outside the company‚Äôs control. When it listed in Shanghai in 2007, bubbles in both oil market were primed to burst, and the globally-destructive financial crisis was just around the corner.  What’s even more frightening – the 82% drop in PetroChina is nothing compared to Shanghai’s China 300 Energy Index (like the Fortune 500), which has fallen 73% in the last decade.

You will likely remember that Greece in 2012 almost swamped the entire European Union with its debts of ‚ā¨323 billion.  Now take a deep breath and contemplate this – the Shanghai stock exchange lost that much value on July 8, 2015 alone.  In fact, by the time the financial bleeding had stopped, as we reported in the article above, the Shanghai index had lost 13 times more value than that entire debt of Greece.  In fact, it lost the basic total value of the entire Japanese economy.

(Credit: World Bank)

If the Chinese didn‚Äôt already have the 2nd largest economy on earth, this would have easily destroyed them beyond repair.  The World Economic Forum stated that in 2017, China still had the second-largest economy on earth, at $11 trillion, or 14.8% of the world economy. Japan is in third place with an economy of $4.4 trillion, which represents almost 6% of the world economy. The United States, the #1 economy in the world, is worth about $18 trillion – or 25% of the entire world’s economy. However, they also have $20 trillion in debt today – which means that they couldn’t pay off the debt even if they used every dime the entire nation made in an entire year.

China’s losses in 2015 were so spectacular, if you made $1 million payments toward this debt, you would have to do so… every single minute, of every single hour, of every single day, of every single year – for the next 146 years.  Again, that’s $1 million a minute – for nearly 1.5 centuries.   If you laid out this debt in $100 bills, they would stretch the 238,855-mile distance to the moon and back… 6 times.

And as Citigroup Inc. analyst Nelson Wang points out, most of PetroChina‚Äôs shares are owned by the Chinese government, so the hit to minority investors hasn‚Äôt been as big as the loss in total market value might suggest.  However, one wonders what the government of China would do, should this slide continue unabated?

On Hong Kong‚Äôs exchange, where PetroChina first listed in April 2000, stockholders have enjoyed strong long-term gains. The company‚Äôs so-called H shares have returned about 735 percent since their debut, outpacing the city‚Äôs benchmark Hang Seng Index by more than 500 percentage points.  In other words, if you bought $10,000 in the stock initially, it would be worth $73,500 today. (Dual listings are common among Chinese companies, which often sell stock to international investors in Hong Kong.)

Stay tuned. folks – China’s volatility on the world stage could cause a massive domino effect worldwide.  No nation is an island, especially one that is 18% of the entire world’s economy.  And, as the Economist wrote in March 2015:

“BY MAKING things and selling them to foreigners, China has transformed itself‚ÄĒand the world economy with it.  In 1990 it produced less than 3% of global manufacturing output by value; its share now (in 2015) is nearly a quarter. China produces about 80% of the world‚Äôs air-conditioners, 70% of its mobile phones and 60% of its shoes. The white heat of China‚Äôs ascent has forged supply chains that reach deep into South-East Asia. This ‚ÄúFactory Asia‚ÄĚ now makes almost half the world‚Äôs goods.”

Like it or not, China’s rise or fall financially will do the same to the rest of the world.  Let’s just pray they can crawl out of this latest hole they have dug themselves, before this does happen to the rest of us.

[God’s Got A Plan For You!]

Church Crack Down In China, the official website of the “Quitting Chinese Communist Party” movement, reported last Sunday, September 25, 2016¬†that the State Council of the People‚Äôs Republic of China has drafted a new set of religious restrictions, to be officially enacted in early October. The restrictions aim to suppress all unofficial religious activities, including breaking up Christian house churches, silencing Tibetan and Xinjiang separatists and undermining the Vatican‚Äôs influence on Chinese Catholics.

If one looks at Liberal mainline denominations within the Christian Church in North America today, they could be forgiven for thinking that the Church around the world is weak, compromising, and has lost influence on society.

Yet across the globe, the explosive growth of the Church is astonishing –¬†in fact, according to the Pew Research Center survey in 2011, there were 2.18 billion Christians around the world in 2010, nearly four times as many as were recorded 100 years ago. ¬†In 2015,¬†Pew Research also¬†estimated¬†that in the next 35 years (by 2050),¬†the Christian population is expected to be 2.9 billion, a stunning growth of more than 700 million people.¬†Most of this growth can be seen in¬†Protestant churches, which grew three times faster than the world’s population, and twice as fast as Islam.

There are two countries specifically where Church growth is so tremendous, they represent the highest concentration of Christian believers in world history  Рin India and China.

On March 26, 2016, as Easter celebrations were beginning across the globe, the BBC reported that for the first time since the Communist revolution in China in 1949, there are now more Christians in China than Communist Party members.

While they estimate that there are more than 100 million Christians in China,¬†Charisma magazine states the number as high as 140 million people, with another 70 million in India. ¬†Those national congregations are now growing so quickly, it is believed that those two countries alone will have 330 million Christians in the next 30 years. Friends, that’s the entire population of the United States, including children.

We rejoice in this miraculous revival taking place around the world. ¬†But dark clouds now are gathering in China, and the Church there may soon face some of it’s darkest days. ¬†Some strong indicators:

  • The New York Times reported on February 26 that at¬†the beginning of the year, the government ordered the removal of crosses from Churches, taking away over 1,200 to date.¬† ¬†One pastor tried to block the removal of the Cross from his church, and he was arrested, tried, convicted and is serving 14 years in prison.
  • nanjing-union-theological-seminaryIn 1981, the government mandated that the Nanjing Union Theological Seminary be the only seminary in the entire nation that is allowed to train future pastors – after they first closed 11 other seminaries and merged them together. ¬†As of 2012, the Seminary had only 280 students and annually graduates 70, which is about 1 for every 2 million of China’s Christians. ¬†America has approximately 1 million ministers – 1 for every 330 people.
  • What it failed to destroy, the Communist Party still wants to control. So, an officially atheist government effectively runs its own churches and controls the appointment of its own priests.

At the end of January 2016, the pastor of China‚Äôs largest Protestant church, ‚ÄúJoseph‚ÄĚ Gu was arrested after he publicly protested the government‚Äôs campaign to remove crosses from churches. ¬†During this same time, his wife and several other family members went missing, yet to be heard from again.

Gu pastors a¬†10,000-member church that is part of the government‚Äôs officially sanctioned ‚ÄúThree-Self Patriotic Movement” (TSPM). Though the government claimed he was detained for ‚Äúsuspicions of economic issues, including embezzling money,‚ÄĚ human rights advocates say Gu‚Äôs detention is part of a larger movement by China‚Äôs communist government to persecute Christian leaders who they perceive as a threat to the government’s power. ¬†Pastor Gu¬†He will be the highest-ranking national church leader arrested since the Cultural Revolution.

Now, in this announcement today, authorities released the Revised Draft of Regulations on Religious Affairs (To Be Approved) to the public to gather opinion. The draft will stop accepting suggestions on Oct. 7, at which point the Council will formally bring the document into effect. ¬†Currently the draft, based on the previous Regulations on Religious Affairs, contains nine chapters and 74 articles. Some of the proposed articles include prohibitions on ‚Äúorganizing citizens to attend religious trainings, conferences and activities abroad,‚ÄĚ ‚Äúpreaching, organizing religious activities, and establishing religious institutions or religious sites at schools,‚ÄĚ and ‚Äúproviding religious services through the internet.‚ÄĚ

Revisions to the Regulations on Religious Affairs occur approximately every ten years, with new revisions appearing in both 1995 and 2006.

‚ÄúStudying the newly revised Regulations on Religious Affairs, it is evident that the Party wants to take charge of religion,‚ÄĚ a pastor named Zhou said. ‚ÄúThe government wants to control everything, even the smallest aspects. One characteristic of this draft is the empowerment of local government bodies all the way down to the communities. This revision will further reduce the possibility of loosening religious control in China. It is becoming impossible.‚ÄĚ

Gao Baosheng, American pastor, has been an outspoken critic of China's persecution of Christians. (Credit: China Aid)

Gao Baosheng, the pastor of a U.S.-based Chinese church, wrote an article on the new revisions, titled, ‚ÄúThe Alarming Changes in the Revised Draft of Regulations on Religious Freedom,‚ÄĚ in which he stated: ‚ÄúWe can see that the government is clenching tighter and tighter on Christianity, Catholicism, Buddhism and Islam. The laws are becoming more and more specific and detailed when suppressing Christian family churches [Editor‚Äôs note: ‚ÄúFamily church‚ÄĚ is another way of translating the word ‚Äúhouse church.‚ÄĚ],¬†Catholicism, and all other underground religions. The revisions provide a powerful legal base for future suppression. The conditions of religious freedom in China are worsened for them. This draft will bring upon a religious winter so harsh that we must seek guidance from God.‚ÄĚ

Gao also said he believes the government ‚Äúseeking public opinion‚ÄĚ is nothing more than formality

‚ÄúOverall,‚ÄĚ Gao said, ‚Äúthe Revised Draft of Regulations on Religious Affairs is [Chinese President] Xi Jinping‚Äôs attempt to further manage and suppress religions by taking advantage of the laws. By observing these changes in the Draft, we can tell that the government is imposing more control on major religions.‚ÄĚ

May God protect the Church in China.

China’s Growing Military Threat #1 – Aircraft Carriers

UPDATE (April 26, 2017):¬†¬†China has officially launched its second aircraft carrier – the first homegrown carrier the People’s Liberation Army-Navy has ever built. ¬†This carrier was not even officially announced by Beijing until January 2016, even though we first reported it here on November 2014! ¬†Full posting is shown below.

UPDATE (January 26, 2017):

On April 26, as was reported above, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) launched its first domestically constructed aircraft carrier from a shipyard in Dailan. The as-yet-unnamed carrier still requires much more additional work before it joins PLAN’s fleet. But the ship’s construction began less than five¬†years ago (in November of 2012), and it only moved into full dry-dock construction in 2015. And China appears poised to churn out additional new aircraft carriers even faster, based upon the experience acquired in this first homegrown carrier project.

In March, Zhu Chenghu, a professor at China’s National Defense University,¬†told China Daily:

“China launching its first domestically designed aircraft carrier is a monumental step toward building a world-class navy. The valuable lessons learned from building a carrier from scratch will help China build more carriers faster in the future and enable them to reach combat readiness quicker.”

For the sake of comparison, the US Navy’s newest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald Ford, began construction in 2009 and launched in 2013; it is still undergoing outfitting, and no commissioning date has yet been set. While the Ford is certainly a more complicated and much larger vessel than the new Chinese carrier, the US has been building aircraft carriers since World War II. China’s only previous experience with aircraft carriers comes from work on the PLAN’s first carrier, the CNS Liaoning‚ÄĒthe rebuilt former Soviet ship that China purchased from Ukraine in the mid-1990s. It took nearly 16 years to complete the Liaoning, which was¬†purchased under somewhat shady circumstances.

UPDATE (January 12, 2016):

China has at last formally acknowledged that it has a new aircraft carrier under construction, the first to be built in China and the second in the People’s Liberation Army-Navy’s order of battle.¬† Unbelievable, considering we first reported it back in November 2014! (See the full original post below)

However, according to South China Morning Post, what is news is that the Chinese will be using a Russian blueprint to finish the current carrier.  The new warship will be lighter than the Liaoning but have more space for fighter jets, according to, an online news arm of Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV.

J-15 fighter jet pilots and crew were training on the Liaoning slightly and be able to transition seamlessly to the new carrier, the report said.

As we reported in November 2014, the PLA Navy appears to have embarked on a substantial carrier program, probably with the intention of creating four and perhaps up to six carrier battle groups.  Chinese commentators have publicly acknowledged the need for at least three units in order to have an effective carrier capability. The rehabilitated ex-Russian carrier Liaoning, designated Carrier 16, has been the start of this effort, although its reliability has yet to be confirmed.

Liaoning Carrier

(ORIGINAL POST – November 22, 2014)

Since the 1970s, the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy) has expressed interest in operating an aircraft carrier as part of its blue (international) waters aspirations. According to a 2009 report in, from an anonymous Japanese government official, then-Chinese Defence Minister Liang Guanglie told his Japanese counterpart Yasukazu Hamada, while the two met in Japan in September 2009, that China was the only major nation in the world with no carriers. “China has a formidable task of protecting its vast sea territory,” Liang was quoted as saying. According to the report, he then went on to then state that China will build an aircraft carrier in the future.

Of course, China already owned an aircraft carrier at that time. The Russian aircraft carrier Varyag was incomplete when sold to China by the Ukraine in 2000, apparently lacking engines and a lot of other necessary equipment. At that time, China announced it would be retrofitting the ship to become a floating casino in Macau!

The ship arrived in China in 2003, following a two-year delay: Turkey balked at its transit of the Turkish Straits and the Dardanelles, an apparent violation of the Montreux Convention. Then followed a hazardous voyage to China under tow. At one point the ship broke free from its tugs in the Eastern Mediterranean and was almost abandoned. It spent nearly a decade being reconstructed in Chinese shipyards. Most experts believed that China would NEVER get its act together and have a working aircraft carrier.

Until, that is, the BBC reported on June 8, 2011 that the People’s Liberation Army Chief of the General Staff Chen Bingde had confirmed China was already constructing at least one locally-designed aircraft carrier, in the same shipyards where the original Liaoning had been redeveloped. The West certainly wasn’t going to give China the know-how to have their own aircraft carrier fleet, but apparently they had learned enough from the decade spent retrofitting and rebuilding the Russian carrier.

Which, incidentally, was finally commissioned on September 25, 2012. In the most publicized PLA Navy modernization event ever, after a year of extensive sea trials, the aircraft carrier,¬†formerly known as the Varyag, finally entered operational service as the Liaoning (named after the province where the ship was refitted and refurbished). It was announced that it would be used primarily as a training platform “with no assigned aircraft”. Official statements said that the vessel would also help China defend its interests (emphasis mine) – apparently forever erasing the “floating casino” idea. Not even two months later, they had already conducted launching and landing jet fighters on its deck.

Hinting that two carriers just weren’t going to be enough, Chinese military expert Du Wenlong told the Chinese state media arm, the People‚Äôs Daily: ‚ÄúIf China had only one aircraft carrier, it would not conform to China‚Äôs status as a world power, nor to the demands imposed by the length of the coastline. Considering China‚Äôs ocean environment, two aircraft carriers are not enough to safeguard marine interests. If China has three aircraft carriers, they can maintain a sustained combat capability: maintenance, safeguarding and patrol respectively,‚ÄĚ

So it as quite a shock when, on June 13, 2013, the China Daily Mail reported that China will build six aircraft carriers by 2020. Elite Reference magazine is also quoted as saying, ‚ÄúThere has been analysis that China will carry out its plan for aircraft carrier construction by stages. At the first stage, four conventional carriers will be built; while at the second stage, at least two nuclear carriers will be built. They are expected to be delivered to Chinese navy around 2020.‚ÄĚ

And they are moving full steam ahead with that goal. On January 20, 2014, in a Global Times report sourcing Hong Kong-based Ta Kung Pao newspaper, Wang Min, the Party chief of Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, told a panel at the annual session of the¬†provincial legislature that a second Chinese carrier is being built at a shipyard in the port city of Dalian. According to the official, construction is expected to be completed in six years, and China will eventually have at least four aircraft carriers. Wang also said the People‚Äôs Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy) needs a total of four carriers by 2020.

An October 22 report in the South China Morning Post, quoting Kanwa Asian Defence, an English-language monthly defense review produced in Toronto, it was announced that Shanghai’s Jiangnan Shipyard was preparing to start work on the second locally designed aircraft carrier.

FULL STOP. 4 CARRIERS… in 6 YEARS? And “needs them by 2020”? With the possibility of 2 further NUCLEAR carriers soon thereafter? What on earth is this sudden necessity dictated by – Japanese, Australian or US aggression in the Pacific? What rubbish. At a full complement of even 5 carriers (not to mention the proposed 7), the Chinese would tip the balance of power in the Pacific and would be the largest naval presence in that region. According to DefenseTech, “the PLA Navy would then present quite a power in the global seas. As pointed out by the U.S. Naval Institute, a four carrier navy would allow the Chinese to keep one carrier on patrol at all time.”

Our Western governments and media have failed us, so we’re Calling Out China: Why do you suddenly need 4 carriers in 6 years, when you didn’t have 1 working carrier 2 years ago? What is your real end game? Why are you on a 2020 timeline?

Stay tuned folks, we’re going to keep watch over this one..

The Sea of Japan War… Must Be Avoided

On Saturday, April 2, US Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump told a crowd of thousands in Rothschild, Wisconsin that he was optimistic about potential hostilities between North Korea and its neighbors. He said that if conflict between Japan and nuclear-armed North Korea were to break out, ‚Äúit would be a terrible thing but if they do, they do‚ÄĚ.

‚ÄúGood luck,‚ÄĚ he added. ‚ÄúEnjoy yourself, folks.‚ÄĚ

Referring to North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, Trump also complained that the US had 28,000 troops on the armistice line between North Korea and South Korea ‚Äúto stop a maniac‚ÄĚ, adding that the United States received no benefit from deploying troops around the world to help other countries who did not reimburse American taxpayers. ‚ÄúWe can‚Äôt be the policeman of the world,‚ÄĚ said Trump.

“What we do get out of it?‚ÄĚ he asked. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs time that other people stopped looking at us as stupid, stupid people.‚ÄĚ

He pledged, if elected, ‚Äúwe are going to get these countries to pay and to pay all the money they owe us for many years … we‚Äôve been carrying these countries‚ÄĚ, he said.

US troops are deployed in South Korea to support the United Nations, which enforces an armistice ending the Korean War in 1953.

The two countries are still technically at war, and North Korea often engages in a belligerent activity, which recently has included sinking a South Korean ship and bombarding South Korean territory.  Both events could have led to war, had other countries like the US, Japan and China not stepped in to calm the situation down.

This week, as President Obama chaired a multi-nation nuclear security summit in Washington, Pyongyang carried out the latest of a number of ballistic missile tests. Last week, North Korea released a propaganda film that showed the US capital under nuclear attack.

According to Trump: “Frankly, the case could be made to let [Japan] protect themselves against North Korea, they’d probably wipe them out pretty quick.

Trump previously suggested in a televised interview with CNN that South Korea and Japan should have their own nuclear weapons, in contradiction of more than half a century of American foreign policy. The Republican frontrunner said of that policy: ‚ÄúMaybe it‚Äôs going to have to be time to change.‚ÄĚ

The Hyuga (bottom) and Izumo (top) class of helicopter carriers built for the Japanese navy.
The Hyuga (bottom) and Izumo (top) class of helicopter carriers built for the Japanese navy.

Japan shocked the world recently when it added a ‘helicopter landing ship’ to their Navy – which looked exactly like an aircraft carrier.¬† They have since added several larger versions of the same. While Japan has for decades been constitutionally prohibited from having an army, we reported in 2015 that this was no longer the case.¬† They have built three aircraft carriers in the last several years and clearly are ramping up militarily again.¬† China also has several aircraft carriers under construction on a massive¬†rearmament campaign.

Not surprising to my readers, I’m sure, I agree with Trump completely on most points.¬† Its time that the¬†world not assume that the Western powers are going to bail them out every time some banana republic dictator threatens their neighbors.

A nuclear North Korea must not be allowed by the international community, but I¬†certainly do not agree¬†that the¬†solution would be to add even more nations to the Nuclear Old Boy’s Club.¬†¬†A agreement¬†is unlikely to¬†be reached with North Korea to disarm its reported nuclear stockpiles (Clinton already tried it once and clearly failed, and Obama ruined any possibility of good deal¬†for us with his¬†idiotic agreement with Iran).¬† Perhaps we would have to strike at North Korean nuclear facilities, much like Israel did with Iran years ago.

Tensions¬†between China, Japan and the Koreas are for the most part not North America’s problem currently. A¬†war between these four powerful nations could literally destroy the entire Pacific Rim, if not the world.¬† Here is how they militarily stack up at present:

I agree with Trump that its time South Korea, the Philippines, Germany and others start paying for the privilege of US troops stationed in their nations for their protection.  And Mr. Trump, while you are at it, please kick the United Nations out of New York, and pull the United States out of this international joke.  It accomplishes nothing militarily and costs most of us Western powers a fortune to maintain.

The threat of a massive war in Asia looms more clearly every day.  Perhaps, with the possible election of Donald Trump as President later this year, the United States and its allies, including my home Canada, could avoid being dragged into the conflict, at least at the beginning.  That alone should give Americans more encouragement to vote for the billionaire in November.

Millionaires… By The Millions!

In April¬†2009, the Financial Stability Board (FSB) was¬†created by the 26 richest nations on earth to monitor and make recommendations about the global financial system. Founding member institutions included the Bank of Canada, US Federal Reserve, Bank of England, European Central Bank, Central Bank of the Russian Federation, and People’s Bank of China, to name a few.

Credit Suisse Global Headquarters, Zurich, Switzerland
Credit Suisse Global Headquarters, Zurich, Switzerland (Credit: Credit Suisse)

As¬†the global financial crisis of 2013 abated, this FSB identified a list of global banks that strategically couldn’t fail in the future¬†– known as Global Systemically Important Banks (G-SIBs) – and then they devised a plan to ensure that¬†these G-SIB banks wouldn’t fail.

I note with some concern that no Canadian bank is listed in the 2015 report, while China has¬†4 banks on this list, out of 30 globally identified.¬† However, FSB named¬†the 160-year old European megabank Credit Suisse as one of these can’t-fail institutions, and it makes sense.¬† Not only is a financial powerhouse with over $880 billion in assets, but and Fortune Magazine in 2012¬†ranked it the #6 most admired bank on earth.¬†

When this bank talks, the world listens – and every year in October, Credit Suisse releases a Global Wealth Report¬†that gives, in essence, a State of the Union for all of the Daddy Warbucks of the world – a broad overall picture of who’s getting richer globally, who’s getting poorer, where and (if possible) even why?

Good News For …Some?

Perhaps this won’t be much of a surprise to some of you, but I was very stunned to learn that there are a whopping 33.7 million millionaires in the world.

According to the October 2015 report, the¬†United States¬†economy seems to be rebounding rather dramatically – with a stunning 46% of the world’s millionaires living within its borders, compared with 41% of the global total last year. The report also highlighted the fact that the U.S. alone added a whopping 903,000 millionaires over the past year, to reach a record-breaking 15.7 million.¬† Yes, you read that right – in the United States alone, there are over¬†15 MILLION MILLIONAIRES.

Now, my apologies to Wally the Welfare Whiner – your version of the American Dream IS Over.¬† The days of welfare entitlement with little to no effort on your part is long over.¬† But the true American Dream is not dead – as Occupy Wall Street would like you to believe.¬† It’s every bit as alive and very much as well as ever.¬† And the 1% are also not 1% in America – more like approx. 4.4% based on current population!¬†

You can’t possibly believe that of the 13.7 million millionaires in the U.S., that all were white men 40+ with university degrees and perfect upbringing?¬† That takes more faith than it does to believe the truth – there are 903,000 new millionaires this year alone, and some of them look just like YOU.

(Credit: Christian Science Monitor)

Now to slash another myth – the middle class is not dead.¬† Globally, 14 percent of the adult world population belonged to the middle class in 2015 ‚Äď that’s¬†664 million adults in total.¬†¬† It might be especially shocking for you to know what this report uses to define “wealthy”, “rich” and “richest”(where do you stack up?):

“To be part of the wealthiest half [50%] of the world’s adult population, you need $3,210.00 once debts have been subtracted. To be a member of the world’s wealthiest 10% you need $68,800.00 and to be among the richest 1%¬†percentile, $759,900.00.

The So-So News

The news isn’t as great if you are a citizen of China, where they did add the second-highest number of new millionaires in 2015 (152,000), but they still only account for 3.8% of the world’s total rich,¬†at 1.3 millioneven though they are roughly 19% of the world’s population, at 1.3 billion.¬†¬†That’s right – there is 1 Chinese millionaire for every 1,000 people living in China.¬† There is 1¬†American millionaire¬†for every 38 people living in America.

The next time someone tells you that America is sunk, and China is the real financial powerhouse – just remind the socialist wannabe that this is in fact TOTAL CRAP.¬† For every Chinese millionaire in the world, there are 17 American ones.¬† China’s mythical “1%” is actually “0.1%” of the population – America’s, as was said before, is “4.4%” of the population.

The Bad News

untitledNow for the bad news, mostly for China.  According to many news sources, including Yahoo! News, a number of countries are opening the doors to the estimated 1 million Chinese millionaires … provided they bring their money with them. It’s something of a bidding war in reverse.  For $1 million, the U.S. will give the Chinese national a green card and residency.

As was reported in February 2014 in the¬†Wall Street Journal and others, Canada’s economic immigration program was in fact so swamped by Chinese nationals that they shut the whole thing down – at least for now.¬† Our program was too beneficial for the investor, apparently! The canceled visa program granted permanent residency to those who committed 800,000 Canadian dollars (US$726,700) to a five-year zero-interest loan to one of the country’s provinces.¬† We had to pay it back?¬† Glad they fixed that problem.

Though 33.7 million millionaires sounds suffocating , the overall number of millionaires globally actually declined by 2.4 million!

Now The Really Bad News??

For the first time in modern history, and for a variety of reasons, the report states that:

(Credit: WorldNews (WN) Network)

…the US middle class has come to epitomize the middle class. But this year, the Chinese middle class for the first time outnumbered it. The Chinese middle class now counts 109 million adults, well ahead of the 92 million adults part of the American middle class.¬†[emphasis mine]

But that’s a bit misleading when the same report states that the U.S. created 750,000 more millionaires than China – presumably, some of them at least were middle class!¬† I don’t think it’s always a bad thing to get a raise.

Jingjinji – World’s Largest City You’ve Never Heard Of?

By Calling Out Community, posted March 16, 2016.

Beijing Skyline at Dusk

For decades, China’s government has tried to limit the size of Beijing, the capital, through draconian residency permits.

Now, according to a report in the New York Times, the government has embarked on an ambitious plan to make Beijing the center of a new supercity of 130 million people.

The planned megalopolis, a metropolitan area that would be about six times the size of New York City’s population, will cover an area larger than the entire state of Kansas, and is meant to revamp northern China‚Äôs economy and become a laboratory for modern urban growth.

“The supercity is the vanguard of economic reform. It reflects the senior leadership’s views on the need for integration, innovation and environmental protection.

–¬†Liu Gang, professor at Nankai University in Tianjin

The newly-created Jingjinji, also known as Jing-Jin-Ji or simply JJJ, will encompass the following cities as a new national capital region of China:3

  • img_6437Beijing¬†(2010* pop: 19,612,368) – a metropolis in northern China and the capital of the People’s Republic of China – it is China’s second largest city after Shanghai (with a staggering population of 23,019,200 in 2010)
  • Tianjin (2010* pop: (12,938,224) –¬†third largest city in China both in population and land area.
  • Baoding (2010* pop:¬†10,029,197)
  • Shijiazhuang (2010* pop:¬†9,547,869)
  • Tangshan¬†(2010* pop: 7,577,284 – completely rebuilt after the 1976 Tangshan earthquake (7.5 on the Richter scale) flattened the entire city.
  • Cangzhou¬†(2010* pop:¬†7,134,053
  • Langfang (2010* pop: 4,358,839)
  • Zhangjiakou¬† (2010* pop: 4,345,491)
  • Chengde (2010* pop: 3,473,197)
  • CURRENT TOTAL: ¬†79,016,452
Jingjinji, the Supercity

(*Note: ¬†China conducts a census only once every 10 years – the last being in 2010, called the Sixth National Population Census of the People’s Republic of China. ¬† It found the total population of Mainland China to be 1,339,724,852 persons, an increase of 73,899,804 persons from the previous census conducted in 2000.)

The Chinese central government has made it a priority to integrate all the cities in the Bohai Bay rim and foster economic development. This includes building an advanced communications network, better highways, increased education and scientific resources as well as tapping natural resources off the Bohai Rim.

Iran Illegally Test-Fired Missiles (Yawn)

By Calling Out Community, Posted October 12, 2015. Updated January 17, 2016

Secretary of State John Kerry after a news conference on Iran nuclear talks in Vienna. (Credit: Carlos Barria/Agence France-Presse)

On July 14, 2015, the P5+1 (China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States), the European Union (EU), and the Islamic Republic of Iran reached a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).  This, incidentally, is likely the most irrelevant, unrelated title for a document in history.

The JCPOA was sold to the general public as a way of ensuring that Iran does not pose a near or even distant danger to the world through its already-existent nuclear program, which it says is solely for energy generation purposes.

imagesHowever, as news reports about the JCPOA came out, and details were more clearly realized, we were shocked to discover just how badly this had been negotiated. The deal left far too many things on the table, and took off safeguards that seemed totally ludicrous.

One of the most notable was the blessing by the International Atomic Energy Agency for Iran to inspect some of its own facilities and report back its findings – though two senior U.S. officials told NBC News that the unusual arrangement between the IAEA and Tehran related only to “past military activity” and that UN inspectors, including IAEA Director Yukiya Amano, would be on site to supervise the Iranians at every step of the way.

Past military activity? That makes no sense – Iran has never yet built or used a nuclear weapon, so the entire program must be under suspicion for military use, or they wouldn’t have pushed to have an agreement to ensure it didn’t get used for evil.

The wolf was allowed to inspect the chicken coop, while the rest of us turkeys shook our heads in amazement.

q_60I and others believed that Iran would eventually show its true colors, however, and expose themselves for the conniving fraudsters that they are.¬† On October 11, 2015, they did just that, with the United States confirming that Iran had just tested a medium-range missile capable of delivering a nuclear weapon, in “clear violation” of a United Nations Security Council ban on ballistic missile tests.

The logic of this escapes me, if Iran is to be taken at face value in agreeing to this JCPOA. Why spend any time, energy, money or political capital to sign such an agreement on July 14, and then to test a ballistic missile on October 11 that would clearly rustle feathers?

Unless, of course, they meant to do this as a test of the United States’ will power and resolve.¬† They could have saved the missile fuel – we could have told them that the United States would do diddly squat about this.

Samantha-Power-Meme-10-14-2015The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, said in an October 21 statement:

“The United States is deeply concerned about Iran’s recent ballistic missile launch. After reviewing the available information, we can confirm that Iran launched on Oct. 10 a medium-range ballistic missile inherently capable of delivering a nuclear weapon. This was a clear violation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1929.¬†¬†The United States is preparing a report on the incident for the Security Council’s Iran Sanctions Committee and will raise the matter directly with Security Council members in the coming days,” Power said.

In the coming days?  Well, before the U.S. could act, on December 8, the New York Times reported that Iran had test-fired another ballistic missile in November:

“The Obama administration is facing another difficult choice with Iran: As Tehran takes apart much of its nuclear infrastructure to win sanctions relief, how vocally should the White House condemn Iranian violations of United Nations resolutions on other issues?

Based on the first responses Tuesday to reports that Iran had conducted yet another launch of a medium-range ballistic missile, the answer appears to be not very loudly. (emphasis mine)”

Then, on December 15, despite a new International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report that said Iran failed to fully cooperate with an investigation into its past nuclear weapons related work, the United States and the other members of the IAEA Board of Governors voted to close the book on this matter.  Unbelievable.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano addressing the December meeting of the Board of Governors. (Credit: D. Calma/IAEA)
IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano addressing the December meeting of the Board of Governors. (Credit: D. Calma/IAEA)

The above-stated¬†IAEA Director General‚Äôs Final Assessment on Past and Present Outstanding Issues Regarding Iran‚Äôs Nuclear Programme¬†indicated that Iran engaged in ‚Äúcoordinated‚ÄĚ nuclear weapons activities until 2003 and that some nuclear-weapons work continued until 2009 – a bombshell that contradicts a controversial 2007 intelligence estimate that Iran had given up nuclear-weapons work completely in 2003.

Regardless of all these major concerns, the Obama administration did NOTHING.¬† In fact, yesterday (Saturday, July 16) Obama announced it was #ImplementationDay, the day when the International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, says that Iran has curbed its nuclear program enough to begin receiving relief on sanctions, the terms of which were laid out in the JCPOA. “Today marks the moment that the Iran nuclear agreement transitions from an ambitious set of promises on paper to measurable action in progress,” U.S Secretary of State John Kerry announced Saturday in Vienna.

And today, January 17, the US announced it was imposing fresh sanctions on Iranian companies and individuals over the recent ballistic missile tests. The new sanctions prevent 11 entities and individuals linked to the missile program from using the US banking system.

untitledI’m sorry – pardon me?¬† Imagine, telling 11 Iranians that they are international¬†bad boys, and are now restricted from¬†using¬†their ATM cards in Chicago.¬†¬† Wow, don’t¬†go crazy and tell them that Burger King in Philadelphia is off limits to them too!

I’m sure they were laughing…all the way to the bank somewhere else.¬† What a joke. Iran test-fired, then tested the resolve of the United States and its allies related to this JCPOA – and won the day. In fact, President Obama even stated today that the sanctions lifted as part of the JCPOA deal were “smart”.

Oh, Obama, they were stupid as hell – and so are you.¬† And if you have led us to ruin over this deal, as many of your “fellow citizens” as possible will be demanding your arrest, trial for crimes against humanity. and then we’ll happily strap you to the ground at the projected ground zero of the first nuclear missile that Iran launches against the Israel or the West.

Let’s see if THAT finally…blows your mind.

200 Million Chinese Renounce Communism

By Calling Out Community, Posted April 14, 2015.   Updated  January 6, 2016

A giant golden statue of Chairman Mao, China’s first Communist leader, is being built near 36 m high in Central China

Rising amongst scrubby farmland of rural Henan province in East-Central China, a 36.6 meter (120 foot)steel and concrete statue of Mao Tse-Tung (Zedong), the founding father of the People’s Republic of China, looms large over the country’s politics and society, resplendent¬†with a gleaming coat of golden paint.

Businessmen and some rural communities chipped in nearly 3 million yuan ($459,000) to build the conspicuous tribute, completed in December 2015, according to Chinese state media.

Love him or hate him, “Chairman Mao” and¬†the Communist Party of¬†China (CPC)¬†that he founded on October 1, 1949 have loomed equally large across this vast nation of 1.3 billion people.¬† In fact, during the 120th anniversary of his birth in 2013, a solid-gold likeness was installed with pride in a memorial hall in Shaoshan – at a value of over $30 million.

Regardless of the desperate clinging of some for the old CPC heyday, the Party is dying a slow, painful death.  Some may point to the death of the Chairman himself in 1976 as the primary reason, but most would point to May 2000 on a calendar Рwhen a group of Chinese-American Falun Gong practitioners founded a small newspaper called the Epoch Times Рas the beginning of the end for the Party.

img_4936From its humble foundations as a daily newspaper in Chinese, the Epoch Times grew quickly into a massive, multi-language, international media company in print and online.  Headquartered in New York City, the paper is now published in 9 print languages (including English) and web versions in 21 other languages Рand with a circulation of more than 1 million copies distributed weekly in newspaper boxes in 35 countries free of charge (including here in Greater Vancouver, Canada where I live and work), it is one of the most powerful voices about China in the world today.

The award-winning newspaper covers matters of general interest, though it maintains a focus on news about China and human rights issues there, drawing from a network of sources inside China, plus the expertise and contacts of Chinese expatriates living in the West.  It is also considered increasingly dangerous to the CPC regime, ensuring its websites are continuously (and perhaps even feverishly) blocked within China.

9_commentaries_english_bookWhy? ¬†In November 2004, the Epoch Times¬†published an editorial series called ‚ÄúNine Commentaries on the Communist Party,‚ÄĚ an uncensored history of the Communist Party in China.¬† And instantly, it struck¬†a chord with the Chinese people around the world.

Soon after¬†the series was published the paper began receiving tens of thousands of statements from Chinese expressing their unhappiness with the Party and their desire to withdraw from it. Sensing a wind of change blowing throughout the country, a grass-roots movement known as Tuidang sprang up (Mandarin for ‚ÄúQuit the Party“) in January 2005 – giving the Chinese people the opportunity for the first time in nearly 60 years to separate themselves psychically and morally from the Communist regime and express their intention…¬†that it should end.

Soon, a Tuidang Center was opened and began to solicit statements of renunciation from individuals who are or have been members of the Chinese Communist Party and its affiliated youth organizations, the Young Pioneers and Communist Youth League. These renunciations are then published on the Center’s Chinese-language website.

img_4939Today, more than 20 million volunteers assist more than 1.5 million people a month to do just that  Рformally renounce (often in writing) the Communist Party in China, as well as any oaths they may have sworn in th past.  As the numbers of the renouncers grew, the fear (or even the possibility) of being singled out for punishment by the government diminished greatly.

So successful has been this campaign, that on April 14, 2015, the movement celebrated the 200 millionth renunciation.  99% of those individual statements have been traced back to mainland China itself Рan amazing accomplishment when one considers that no one living within China can access information about the movement online.

For over 65 years, the nation of 1.3 billion had been burdened with political oppression, entrenched corruption, and a deteriorating natural environment.  Now, they can feel a fresh breeze of change, and by the millions annually, they are embracing that change wholeheartedly.

A former officer working at Tiananmen Square in Beijing with the People’s Armed Police posted this statement on the Tuidang website in 2007:

‚ÄúBack then, I didn‚Äôt see the truth and took part in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Now I understand. I hereby renounce my Young Pioneers and Youth League membership, and declare void the oaths I once made [to those organizations.]‚ÄĚ (emphasis mine)

China has a bright future ahead if this movement can continue unhindered.  May God continue to bless this incredible thirst for change and freedom in Communist China.

China Stocks Drop $3.2 TRILLION in 3 Weeks

For years, the economic policies of the People’s Republic of China have caused shock waves throughout Europe and North America, as the Chinese significantly undervalued their currency to give themselves an unfair trading advantage, according to the United States and the International Monetary Fund.

Now, it seems, the tables have finally turned. According to the Wall Street Journal, the International Monetary Fund on May 26, 2015 stated that the Chinese no longer had a strategic advantage with their currency, having risen in value to the point that it no longer gave them buying power over Western manufacturers.  This is good news for North American factory workers, but probably not so much for companies like Wal-Mart that depend on cheap Chinese crap to boost their bottom line.

In fact, powerful has the Chinese manufacturing juggernaut become, that there are now several items identified as being as “American as apple pie”, which today are¬†only made in China, including: ¬†baseballs,¬†Radio Flyer Red Wagon,¬†Barbie,¬†Converse All Stars,¬†Levi’s Jeans, U.S. Olympic team uniforms, Monopoly, and most stinging¬†of all…

...American flags –¬†$3.2 million worth of American flags were imported by the U.S. in 2010, with the vast majority being made in China, the Washington Post reports.

This free-fall of the American economy can be traced back to 2001, when China was officially invited to join the World Trade Organization, with President Bill Clinton pushing hard for it.  After they joined later that year, however, the Chinese government almost immediately began practices that were considered hostile to the West Рusing their new membership in the W.T.O. to give them a new superpower financial status.

And superpower they have become in every conceivable way, with their assault on the American economy and way of life not accidental nor innocent, but what many see now to be a well-thought out plan.  According to a November 2, 2009 article in the China Daily newspaper:

  • Real change in gross domestic product (GDP) since 1990, in percent. Credit: IMF
Real change in gross domestic product (GDP) since 1990, in percent. Credit: IMF

In 2001, China’s contribution to the world economy was 13%, making it the 6th largest economy in the world. ¬†By 2008, they contributed 20%, jumping to the 3rd largest economy. ¬†By 2010, it had overtaken Japan to become the world’s 2nd largest economy, only challenged by the United States.

  • In 2001, China’s foreign trade volume was $509.8 billion. ¬†By 2008, it had arisen to a staggering (perhaps even an internationally suffocating) $2.571 trillionnearly 5 times greater.
The losses of American jobs has been catastrophic
The losses of American jobs has been catastrophic

The Economic Policy Institute (EPI), a left-leaning economic think tank in Washington, D.C., estimates that America lost 2.7 million jobs as a result of the U.S.-China trade deficit between 2001 and 2011, 2.1 million of them in manufacturing.  Wages of American workers have also suffered due to the competition with cheap Chinese labor, EPI says. A typical two-earner household loses around $2,500 per year from this dynamic.  According to U.S. News and World Report, jobs were lost in all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, though the biggest losses were in:  California (475,000 jobs), Texas (240,000 jobs) and New York (nearly 159,000).

IMG_2631Peter Navarro, author the famed best selling book and subsequent award-winning documentary Death by China, paints an even¬†bleaker, more destructive effect: ¬†he states that since China started flooding the U.S. market with illegally subsidized goods in 2001, 50,000 American factories have disappeared, 25 million Americans can’t find a “decent job”, and the U.S. now owes at least $3 trillion of its national debt directly to China.

Fast forward to June 2015 – and suddenly it seems, the bully who stole everyone else’s lunch money¬†is the one begging in the street!¬† After their manipulative games on the world stage, I’ll be honest and admit I smiled when I read that their Shanghai Composite stock market – the second largest in the world – over the last 3 weeks¬†has tumbled by more than 32%, shedding an astronomical $3.25 trillion of value¬†– and nothing they do to stem the tide seems to help. ¬†To put it in perspective, that amount is equivalent to France’s¬†entire stock exchange valuation, or 60% of Japan’s.

In 2012, Greece’s government had the largest sovereign debt default in history. Greece became the first developed country to fail to make an International Monetary Fund loan repayment on June 30, 2015. ¬†At that time, Greece’s government had debts of ‚ā¨323 billion. ¬†We have all heard since that this amount threatened to cripple Europe, even cause the expulsion of Greece from the euro. ¬†In recent days, a bailout compromise has been reached, but not without the fury of the Greek voters, betrayed by their own Prime Minister into very deep austerity measures.

150708223924-china-market-explainer-mckenzie-00002326-large-169However, what has happened in the last 3 weeks in China would be the equivalent value of 13¬†Greek¬†loan defaults. ¬† If the Chinese didn’t already have the 2nd largest economy on earth, this would have easily destroyed them beyond repair.

This past week, on July 8, alone, the Shanghai Composite closed down over 5.9% Рlosing a value of over $500 billion.  And this came even after Directors of corporations were told that they could not sell company stock for six months.  As reported by Reuters, on July 8 alone, more than 500 China-listed firms also announced trading halts on the Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges, taking total suspensions to about 1,300 companies out of the 2,700 listed on the Shanghai Composite.  Those companies represent 45 percent of the market or roughly $2.4 trillion worth of stock Рas companies scuttled to sit out the carnage.

The West should do absolutely NOTHING about it.  Our own stock exchanges in fact had done rather well Рthe New York Exchange actually gaining about 500 points during this same period.  Possibly, the market is reacting to the good news that some of these Chinese companies have been hindered or even crippled by this reversal Рcompanies that were not only direct competitors of United States counterparts, but some have also been accused of stealing corporate secrets from their American rivals.

IP_Report_CoverSo bad was this problem that in 2013, the National Bureau of Asian Research struck a formal Commission on the Theft of American Intellectual Property, and wrote a report bluntly stating, in the Executive Summary:

The scale of international theft of American intellectual property (IP) is unprecedented‚ÄĒhundreds of billions of dollars per year, on the order of the size of U.S. exports to Asia. The effects of this theft are twofold. The first is the tremendous loss of revenue and reward for those who made the inventions or who have purchased licenses to provide goods and services based on them, as well as of the jobs associated with those losses. American companies of all sizes are victimized. The second and even more pernicious effect is that illegal theft of intellectual property is undermining both the means and the incentive for entrepreneurs to innovate, which will slow the development of new inventions and industries that can further expand the world economy and continue to raise the prosperity and quality of life for everyone.

Foreign_Economic_Collection_2011And who are there corporate foreign raiders and thieves?  In the Executive Summary of an October 2011 report to the U.S. Congress bluntly entitled Foreign Spies Stealing U.S. Economic Secrets in Cyberspace, the authors stated without hesitation:

Chinese actors are the world’s most active and persistent perpetrators of economic espionage. US private sector firms and cybersecurity specialists have reported an onslaught of computer network intrusions that have originated in China, but the IC cannot confirm who was responsible.

To be blunt,¬†let’s get real –¬†China is not our friend, she is not some innocent trading partner. ¬†China is the antithesis of everything we stand for in a democratic, capitalistic society. ¬†She is our enemy – a communist dictatorship that led America into, and then fought against her indirectly, during both the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. ¬†China has not “changed her tune”, she isn’t “turning over a new leaf”. ¬†China isn’t “born again”, nor has she “transformed” into a¬†democratic nor capitalistic nation.

And on top of her online espionage, Chinese spies have even freely operated in the U.S. itself. ¬†In one recent instance, the Wall Street Journal reported May 19 that “six¬†Chinese citizens, including two professors who trained together at the University of Southern California, stole sensitive wireless technology from U.S. companies and spirited it back to China, the Justice Department charged.”

Here’s the bottom line – China appears to have averted a stock market crash. ¬† The Great Depression II may be awhile off now. ¬†But¬†they aren’t out of the woods yet. ¬†And maybe, this could be a blessing in disguise for American workers, who want …who NEED to see companies bring jobs back to their shores again.

For example, what effect does the Chinese downturn have on U.S. giant Apple, maker of iconic products like the iPad, iPhone, iPod, Apple TV, iMac and so many more? ¬†Apple sources most of its¬†materials and makes most of its products in China – but it also now has factories in France, England, Korea – even Inner Mongolia, according to a very interesting infographic produced by Entrepreneur magazine. ¬†It no longer puts all of its….apples…in one basket.

China relies on Apple more Рin fact, through its manufacturing partner Foxconn, Apple is now the largest employer in China, with 1.09 million staff.  And things have not gone so smoothly with operations there.  Apple recently learned the hard way that working conditions in China are not ideal Рwhen 14 staff members at a Foxconn factory staged a mass suicide in 2010, overwhelmed with the workload and horrible conditions.

Apple is also now worth over $700 billion, making it the largest company in world history. ¬†It made a profit in the last quarter alone of $18 billion, more than 327 of the S&P 500 put together, and the most ever in the 74-year history of Standard & Poors – after recording¬†sales of 74.5 million new iPhones. ¬†In an article recently in Forbes magazine, it was theorized that the computer and telephone giant could survive – possibly even thrive again – without Chinese involvement whatsoever in the company. ¬†Forbes estimates that it would cost the company $4.2 billion to move manufacturing back to the United States. ¬†Yah, ok, that’s not cheap – but it’s also not even¬†1/4 …¬†of one quarter’s worth of profit in the past 12 months.¬† ¬†And once it’s done, it’s done – most of those estimated costs are not repetitive. ¬†According to Entrepreneur magazine, over the long time, the cost difference for an iPhone would be possibly an additional $2-3¬†(not $203) if they returned the manufacturing back to America.

Apple announced on May it is¬†moving manufacturing of at least some of its iPhones to the Philippines from¬†China. ¬†Good for them. ¬†But even better, Corporate America¬†–¬†it’s time to bring those jobs back home. ¬†It’s time that consumers tell these companies that we’ve had enough. ¬†For¬†every Chinese guy making something today, that’s one less manufacturing job in North America, plus several less jobs supporting it – restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, etc. And who makes up that lost¬†tax base for your schools, hospitals, etc.?

China¬†clearly can’t even control their own economy right now – why are they also responsible for¬†controlling ours?

There is a very powerful and ever-growing truth that threatens the very framework and foundations of the People’s Republic of China – so powerful that the government doesn’t want the people within China to even hear about it. The government has managed to even ensure that this truth is not accessible to any of its 1.3 billion people, and that not one webpage with this information has been viewed in the country.

Yet this powerful liberating truth HAS been heard anyway, spread word of mouth across the country. And as of July 2016, 243 million people have acted on this truth, and it’s changed their life forever.

America’s Glory Days: Distant Memories?

by Calling Out Community, Posted July 4, 2015

FireworksOn this July 4, I wanted for a moment to take America back to a July 4th celebration of yesteryear, to remind people again of how great America was Рin a powerful speech from President Ronald Reagan in 1986, as he rededicated the renovated Statue of Liberty, he spoke of an America that seems like a memory today.  I pray it is an encouragement or incentive for Americans to wake up, before this nation, possibly the greatest and most influential nation in world history, collapses and crumbles from within.

America is in serious trouble, and¬†I believe that, without the grace of God and a change in the heart and mindset of Americans – this shining light on a hill can and will be snuffed out. ¬†America is no longer “in danger”, she is in a coma on life support. ¬†The sooner Americans face the fact that this nation is desperately ill and needs serious attention – and unless she elects the proper leadership to bring what is needed to bring America back – this nation as we know it will pass away. ¬†Only fools, our enemies and those people who are not students of history believe America is doing ok, that she is invincible, that she has unlimited lives.

They thought the same way in Rome millennia ago.¬† It was the cultural, financial, military and political capital of the world – perhaps even more so than America is today.¬† Rome today is dirty street, crumbling buildings constructed thousands of years ago, postcards of a distant ideal that fell to internal corruption, not external enemies.¬† Rome’s biggest enemy was herself, and she eventually committed slow suicide.

National-DebtThe socialist, left-wing administration of Barack Obama has financially decimated the once strong and proud America Рhis addition to the National debt ($13 trillion and rising by $2 billion a day) being equivalent to that of all of the previous 43 Presidents put together.  He stated at the University of Wisconsin on July 1, 2015:

And the unemployment rate is now down to 5.3 percent. (Applause.) Keep in mind, when I came into office it was hovering around 10 percent. All told, we‚Äôve now seen 64 straight months of private sector job growth, which is a new record ‚ÄĒ (applause) ‚ÄĒ new record ‚ÄĒ 12.8 million new jobs all told

Even the left wing media have called him out on this absolute lie, with Forbes magazine reporting on July 3:

us-unemployment-05-12We are now 29 quarters from the pre-crisis peak and total non-farm labor hours utilized by the US economy are no higher than they were in Q4 2007. In other words, if you use a common unit of measure‚ÄĒ‚Äďlabor hours rather than job slots which treat coal-miners and part-time pizza delivery boys alike‚ÄĒ‚Äďthere have been no new units of employment at all. Our teleprompter reading President is actually tooting his own horn about recycled hours and ‚Äúborn again‚ÄĚ jobs and doesn‚Äôt even know it.

Oh but he does.¬† Obama’s not stupid, he knows exactly what he is doing and what he has done to devastate America.¬† And he doesn’t give a damn.¬† And spreading these kind of lies – continuing to lead America by deceit, knowing a liberal press will never correct him, never challenge him, never seek truth about him – well, he’s just as comfortable here as the President of Russia is today in his job, I’m sure.

The financial crisis in 2009, by the chart above, showed a massive increase in the unemployment rate from 5% to 10% in a year.  According to a July 1, 2013 New York Times article by  Jared Bernstein, a senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington and a former chief economist to Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.,:

…the fact that there‚Äôs still about 12 million unemployed (including four million who‚Äôve been jobless for over half a year) in addition to about eight million involuntary part-timers (who want more hours, and can‚Äôt find them) should give one pause before declaring all clear on the economic front. (emphasis mine)

But according to the unemployment chart above,¬† it’s been getting better right?¬† I mean, you can feel consumer confidence again, can’t you?¬† Me neither.¬† So why do the numbers look so good?

Daniel Amerman, a CFA, looked indepth at the government’s reporting of unemployment figures over the last several years, particularly since the financial crisis, when¬†suddenly the numbers started suspiciously¬†improving under the Obama Administration.¬† His report Making 9 Million Jobless “Vanish”: How The Government Manipulates Unemployment Statistics”¬†states bluntly:

…A¬†detailed look at the government’s own data base shows that about 9 million people without jobs have been removed from the labor force simply by the government defining them as not being in the labor force anymore.¬† Indeed – effectively all of the decreases in unemployment rate percentages since 2009 have come not from new jobs, but through reducing the workforce participation rate so that millions of jobless people are removed from the labor force by definition. (emphasis mine)

th7D0BL0TUObama knows that the jobs lost above are being completed today by people who speak Mandarin.¬† He knows those jobs have been replaced by full-time McJobs at every turn in America at best – but most are part time with no benefits..¬† He doesn’t care that the math doesn’t make sense for the current tax base to keep the same level of schools, hospitals,¬†Universities, roads, etc. funded as before¬† Why should he care?¬† He’s got a guaranteed job that that pays pretty well, free housing and transportation, and powerful friends that will undoubtedly reward him after his second term with some comfy job somewhere.

And sadly, he’s also got about 431 days left in office, as $2 billion a day hit to the U.S. economy, before we finally get rid of this guy, and he retires.

images (1)Maybe in the Kremlin.¬† Maybe in Beijing.¬† But Comrade Obama has been a master at his committed task.¬† Like any good card-carrying Communist boy (as he was in University), he loves the idea of a weak capitalistic America.¬† Americans are just patriotic and decent enough, that they couldn’t believe that they may have elected a fox to run the hen house.¬† TWICE.¬† It will take maybe 50-100 years, if ever, for American to recover from the post-Obama destruction levelled on it financially.¬† My bet is that after he’s left office, he suddenty leaves America too.

Can you see a future for him here?¬† Bush Jr. went back to business.¬† Clinton before him became a powerful speaker and leader of a great Foundation.¬† Bush Sr.¬†did many great charitable works.¬† But can you actually visualize what Obama does after he leaves the White House?¬† I can’t either, and that’s because he was nothing before he came in but a puppet for higher masters.¬† As our enemies gain in strength, and America weakens by the day, one of two logical conclusions must be considered, when we review the national debt, the U.S. job picture, U.S. confidence, the U.S. image around the world:

  • untitledEither Obama has been the most incompetent, idiotic, stupidest, and most mentally challenged President in American history to actually believe he’s done a GOOD job to this point or
  • It’s all part of the game, and the destruction of America being his #1 goal, he is by far the most successful American President in history to complete HIS agenda.

What was his agenda?¬† Let’s take a look:

  • untitledAbortion still kills 1 million babies every year – he increased funding.¬† Since Roe v. Wade came into law in the 1970s, more than 50 million American babies have been aborted – that’s 1.5 times the entire population of Canada today –¬†dead¬†in a garbage bag.
  • Gay marriage is now a reality in every state of the Union.¬† Thank you, Barack.
  • The U.S. economy borders on bankruptcy every budgetary period, and the government has been forced to shut down at least once during his Presidency, because they couldn’t even pay the light bills
  • imageAmerica is borrowing money from countries like China (who alone hold more¬†than $1 trillion of American debt) – and no one seems to be stopping to think about it.¬† Now, even if Communist China were not American’s sworn enemy, they did not hate American so much they started and/or financed both the Korean and Vietnam Wars to fight against American indirectly?¬†¬†Even if we were just friendly rivals on the world stage – would Burger King let McDonald’s own a controlling share of¬†it’s debt?¬† Would Shell Oil’s¬†shareholders¬†allow it to borrow money from Exxon?¬† Yet, Americans have borrowed hundreds of billions of dollars from the very corrupt creatures that stole American jobs and weakened your economy in the first place.¬† Wow, that’s either masterfully done or stupid as hell, I can’t figure out which.¬† China is now so financially powerful that it lost over $3.2 trillion on the stock market recently – and it’s still in business.¬† American still can’t pay it’s phone and power bills unless it prints more money.¬† Something’s a bit remiss, don’t you think?
  • Obama introduced a health care system so confusing, the website and phone lines literally crash for days as Americans tried to find answers about it.¬† It’s so expensive it’s still incalculable how much it costs – ask even a Democratic member of Congress and he won’t have a clue what dollar value to tell you.¬† And I thought the reason for this program was so that the poorest members of America could have coverage too?¬† So why is it that at least 5 million of them didn’t even qualify for it, until was taken to the U.S. Supreme Court to finally prop up this bill – well done Obama.¬† Like any good Democrat, if you can’t get the people and the lawmakers to agree on something for the country, just ram it down their throats with 9 unelected judges.¬†
  • American continues to insult it’s friends around the world, and forges new alliances with sworn enemies.¬† In a 60-day period, America signed an agreement with Iran about its nuclear weapons, a country that even a week ago was still calling America “the Great Satan” and they start up diplomatic relations with Cuba after more than 50 years, announcing it on a Sunday evening to take Americans by surprise.
  • F080724AH02Israel?¬† Obama is no Jew-lover, let’s be clear.¬† In fact,¬†he thinks he’s the closest thing to a Jew that the White House has seen in recent memory.¬† Yet, the U.S.¬†Congress invited the Prime Minister of Israel to speak to a joint session, and not only did that asshole Obama REFUSE to show up, but basically the word went out that none of the Democratic Congressmen should attend either.¬† What an embarrassment your President is to your country.

In a speech days later, Obama stated, however that¬† America is still “the best friend Israel ever had?”¬† LOL.¬† Funny, the Prime Minister of Israel himself stated on July 31, 2015:

Canada is one of Israel‚Äôs closest friends. We deeply appreciate our extensive and deep cooperation with the Canadian government, which has flourished in recent years and of which the free trade agreement is but one example,‚ÄĚ Netanyahu said.

img_2818Oh yes, while that idiot in the White House was insulting the Jewish people and leadership and signing agreements with her mortal enemies, Canada’s leadership was actually busy forging closer ties with Israel than we had before, even strengthening our free trade agreement with Israel to include 7 more areas of our economies.¬† The United States and Israel¬† also has a free trade deal with Israel, signed by President Reagan in 1985 – and never once updated.¬† It’s so old, it doesn’t include intellectual property rights from this thing called the Internet.

Good thing for Israel – they have become a global leader in all things technology-oriented, to the point that the Radio Islam website now declares that the Jews started the Internet in order to spread their influence worldwide.¬† LMAO.¬† Let’s say it is true, what’s the problem?¬† Only¬†anti-Semitic, Jew-hating fanatical goat herders with a Grade 3 education in the desert, who couldn’t turn on a computer to save their lives (but the Taliban wouldn’t let them anyway) would look at this as a bad thing for the world.¬† You know who I’m talking about.

Abandoned houses in Detroit. Credit:
Abandoned houses in Detroit. Credit:

The¬†city of Detroit has become the greatest testament to America’s demise, and this President’s lack of interest in same.¬† Detroit was once the fastest growing city in the entire world in 1950 thanks to the auto industry – and that same auto industry today is also responsible for it becoming the fastest shrinking city in American history.¬† This was the price of the “American Dream” folks – your car companies and other American giants of industry committed high treason by taking over 9 million manufacturing jobs overseas to China, leaving a sea of crisis in its wake.

Nearly 1/3 of the city of Detroit lies in ruins – 100,000 houses in the city currently have been abandoned and taken over by squatters, and over 33% of black men alone in the city are unemployed.¬†¬† Ironically, the fastest growing city in the world today?¬† Chongqing, China, with over 28 million people. Why so ironic?¬† It’s one of Detroit’s “sister cities”, and Detroit today doesn’t even have a Chintown anymore .

What has America done about this crisis of good-paying American jobs?  Where has this President been to help them recover?  Did they have a bailout package for the City and people of Detroit, like they had for the car markers of Detroit?  No, this President turned those great jobs Рhigh taxpayers all Рinto McJobs and then counted them roughly in such a way as to make you think the unemployment rate went DOWN.

2014-10-02-FBN-LDT-ObamaEconomy2It’s your country, America.¬† It doesn’t belong to China… yet.¬†¬†You haven’t been sold out to Russia or some other socialist/Communist nation yet by this comrade-loving Commander in Chief.¬† You may have only a few years left if you don’t do something NOW.¬†¬† It’s time to throw out all the bums that brought you to this point – it’s not the first time America has needed a Revolution to survive or thrive.¬† Could you really afford¬†four more years with another leftwing whack job like Hilary Clinton?¬† Or is it time for real change?

It’s time to take seriously the “fringe element” that propose deep and dramatic change for America.¬† It’s possible that they were the ones called of God to lead you into your best days…yet ahead?¬† Or perhaps, to keep you from total ruin.

Doomsday: ¬†3 Minutes to Midnight

IMG_2577On January 22, 2015, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists announced that they were moving the minute hand of the 68-year old Doomsday Clock from 5 minutes to midnight, up to 3 minutes to midnight, stating as their reasoning:

“Unchecked climate change, global nuclear weapons modernizations, and outsized nuclear weapons arsenals pose extraordinary and undeniable threats to the continued existence of humanity, and world leaders have failed to act with the speed or on the scale required to protect citizens from potential catastrophe. These failures of political leadership endanger every person on Earth.‚ÄĚ Despite some modestly positive developments in the climate change arena, current efforts are entirely insufficient to prevent a catastrophic warming of Earth. Meanwhile, the United States and Russia have embarked on massive programs to modernize their nuclear triads‚ÄĒthereby undermining existing nuclear weapons treaties. “The clock ticks now at just three minutes to midnight because international leaders are failing to perform their most important duty‚ÄĒensuring and preserving the health and vitality of human civilization

With the recent agreement reached on July 13 between Iran and the major world powers re: their involvement in development of nuclear weapons, one wonders whether or not we have actually moved farther away or closer to the end of all things.

Founded in 1945 by University of Chicago scientists who had helped develop the first atomic weapons in the Manhattan Project, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists created the Doomsday Clock two years later in June 1947, with “midnight” being symbolic of nuclear apocalypse, and the imagery of mankind “counting down” to zero (as if launching a missile) was to give an easily-understood snapshot of the threats to humanity and the planet at any given time.

Since 1973, the decision to move forward or backward (or to leave in place) the minute hand of the Doomsday Clock is made every year by the Bulletin’s Science and Security Board, in consultation with its Board of Sponsors, which includes 17 Nobel laureates. The Clock has now become a universally-recognized indicator of the world’s vulnerability to catastrophe from nuclear weapons and new technologies emerging in other domains.

The introduction of the Doomsday Clock to the world, June 1947

The Doomsday Clock was first set at 7 minutes to midnight simply because it looked good in the initial drawing of it.   Since then, the minute hand has moved 21 times, taking us within 2 minutes of annihilation in 1953, after the United States and the Soviet Union each tested their first thermonuclear weapons within six months of one another. In 1991, with the end of the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union signed the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, the first treaty to provide for deep cuts to the two countries’ strategic nuclear weapons arsenals, prompting the Bulletin to set the clock hand to its farthest point Р17 minutes to midnight.

Initially based on the scientists’ concerns about the escalation of nuclear weapons, the Doomsday Clock also now reflects how various technologies could affect climate change or cause other “man-made disasters”. They intended it to be “a reminder of the perils we must address if we are to survive on the planet.

The current negotiations with Iran highlight just how precarious the world can be with these weapons in the wrong hands. The justification for moving the clock forward, based on the current state of world in weapons of mass destruction is sound enough.

Yet, the Looney Left once again has hijacked yet another prestigious scientific body to propagate the Climate Change Gospel. Remember, these are nuclear scientists, trained in fusion and fission – what possible training or by what scientific authority can they discuss turbulent weather patterns?

Without scientific background, they speak from personal opinion – hardly the solid technical foundation needed to warrant suggesting a further move toward doomsday. ¬†They mention technologies affecting climate change – yet don’t address what exactly that means. ¬†After all, if this is about burning fossil fuels, they are about 50 years late to the table. ¬†It all starts to look like speculation and fear tactics.

North Korean missiles on display during their May Day parade, 2015.
North Korean missiles on display during their May Day parade, 2015.

The Bulletin¬†could just as easily have positioned our current world instability ¬†at the exact same point simply by talking about Iran and North Korea’s interests in developing “the bomb”. In fact, according to the non-partisan, independent watch dog, the Arms Control Association (ACA), North Korea has already conducted 3 nuclear weapons tests. Were you aware of that? I sure wasn’t.

They could have focused more attention on the fact that the United States has LOST 8 nuclear weapons since the 1950s – by lost, we undoubtedly mean “changed owners”.

Were you also aware that, since the first nuclear test explosion on July 16, 1945:

at least eight nations have detonated 2,053 nuclear test explosions at dozens of test sites from Lop Nor in China, to the atolls of the Pacific, to Nevada, to Algeria where France conducted its first nuclear device, to western Australia where the U.K. exploded nuclear weapons, the South Atlantic, to Semipalatinsk in Kazakhstan, across Russia, and elsewhere“, according to the ACA?

The ACA also points out that:

A large number of the early tests– 528 — were detonated in the atmosphere, which spread radioactive materials through the atmosphere. Many underground nuclear blasts have also vented radioactive material into the atmosphere and left radioactive contamination in the soil.

Wow, any chance that could have contributed a bit to climate change or weather pattern disruptions?

The Bulletin could also have pointed out the shocking truth that, even though the Cold War with Russia seems to be over, it was possible in this modern age of peace loving, “progressive societies” that:

As of mid-2014, the authors estimate that there are approximately 16,300 nuclear weapons located at some 98 sites in 14 countries. Roughly 10,000 of these weapons are in military arsenals; the remaining weapons are retired and awaiting dismantlement. Approximately 4,000 are operationally available, and some 1,800 are on high alert and ready for use on short notice. The largest concentrations of nuclear weapons reside in Russia and the United States, which possess 93 percent of the total global inventory.

The B53 nuclear bomb, the largest and most powerful weapon in world history.
The B53 nuclear bomb, the largest and most powerful weapon in world history.

Imagine Р16,300 missiles, each far more powerful than the two detonated 70 years ago next month at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In fact, the October 26, 2011 issue of the Daily Mail newspaper reported that the United States was at that time  dismantling the most powerful nuclear bomb ever made, after nearly 50 years of service:

“The B53 was capable of releasing nine megatons of energy ‚Äď 600 times more than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945.¬†On explosion, the 9,000lb ‚Äėbunker buster‚Äô would have caused lethal burns to anyone within 18 miles, destroyed all buildings within 9 miles and was even able to penetrate up to 230m underground.”

With that bomb disassembled, what is the SECOND most powerful bomb in the world NOW?  Or are there plans for something even more horrific just over the horizon?

Since all the weapons created today are so much more powerful than the ones dropped on August 6 and 9, 1945, maybe it would be prudent to go back and be remimded what its destructive capabilities were.¬† The bomb dropped on Hiroshima was the first if it’s kind, incredibly primitive in design and function, and was only tested once before being put to use in war. ¬†Yet after that first and only test before Hiroshima, J. Robert Oppenheimer, the brilliant scientist who oversaw the building of the bomb, famously said: “Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds.”

The mushroom cloud over Hiroshima, seen from 80 miles away, and more than an hour after the bomb detonated.

At 8:15 AM on August 6, 1945, as the hazy sun dawned over the Japanese port city Рthe 7th largest city in Japan Рthe population awoke and began their day in a thousand ways . By this time most factory workers were on the job, kids were already on their way to school.  There had been a separate fear of an air raid earlier that morning, which had been given the All Clear nearly an hour before Рand no one expected a repeat performance.  Remember, Hiroshima had not been attacked even once since the War had begun.  So the people were out in the open, completely unprotected.

Thousands of feet above, a single United States B-29 bomber slowly positioned itself over the city, having taken their air defences completely by surprise. When they were over their target zone, they simply opened the bomb bay doors, let this newly developed weapon drop out – and then made a 180 and returned to base, trying to stay ahead of what was to come next.

Ironically named “Little Boy” (though it weighed over 8,000 lbs), the bomb fell for 44.4 seconds, after which both time and barometric triggers started the firing mechanism. The detonation took place at an altitude of approx. 1,968 feet, exactly as had been intended.¬† Eyewitnesses on the ground reported that there followed a flash of heat and light, reported to¬†be hotter than the surface of the sun, followed by a shockwave equivalent to up to 15,000 tons of TNT.

Within seconds, 62.9% of the city’s 70,000 buildings, most made of wood, were totally destroyed – only 8% were undamaged. Remember, this detonation came from a mile above the streets of Hiroshima. How do you hide from that?

The shadows cast by people who literally vaporized or
The shadows cast by people who literally vaporized or “carbonized” in Hiroshima, on August 6, 1945.

You don’t – estimates are that 80,000 people were instantly “carbonized”. Meaning? They burned to a crisp. It is estimated that the surface ground temperature rose to 4,000¬įF in 3-4 seconds. Several stones on display at the Hiroshima museum seemed to show shadows of people that literally vaporized in seconds. Nearly 80,000 more died months later of exposure to radiation from this first atomic bomb, including over 20,000 soldiers of the Imperial Army.

So devastating was the impact, the United States never released any footage of the bomb explosion or resulting after-effects on the city until 1951 – 6 years later. A member of the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey, Lieutenant Daniel McGovern, used a film crew to document the results in early 1946, which resulted in a three-hour documentary entitled The Effects of the Atomic Bombs Against Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The documentary included images from hospitals showing the human effects of the bomb; it showed burned out buildings and cars, and rows of skulls and bones on the ground – and it was classified “secret” for the next 22 years.

Kokura became the great miracle of World War II. Not only was this city chosen as the backup should Hiroshima be clouded over, but on August 9 it was the primary target of the next bomb named “Fat Man” – but the smoke from a nearby bombed-out neighbouring city¬†saved them again, and the nuclear blast that shook Nagasaki ended the Japanese involvement in World War II.¬† His voice shaking with emotion, the Emperor announced the unconditional surrender of Japan – for most Japanese, it was the first time they had ever heard his voice.

Today there are many other voices, some calm, some not so much, that are all moving us ever forward to what some think is the inevitability of the Apocalypse.¬† I think the jury is still out – but until it is all said and done, and the fat lady (or another “Fat Man” bomb) sings, we can still write the next chapter in world history.¬† Mankind must stand together, or be wasted by mutually assured destruction.
